Huawei Technologies Research and Development Belgium NV is a centre of excellence for silicon photonics. Driven by AI applications, silicon photonics technology is playing an important role in current and next generation optical communication. Caliopa department, which is located in Gent, is the core team providing advanced silicon photonic chip solutions and novel design methods to enhance the competitiveness of the opto-electronics business in Huawei. To strengthen our team, we are now looking for an experienced RF Design Engineer to lead the RF design of high-speed modulators. Job responsibilities: Work as part of a team of photonic design engineers dedicated to develop Huawei’s silicon photonics platform Develop high-speed modulators, with a focus on the RF design in traveling-wave modulator designs, including traveling line, Balun, biasing and termination circuit design Evaluate modulators on different material systems which use various physical effects, including the use of Pockel’s effect, plasma dispersion effect, etc. Develop new equalization techniques to enhance device bandwidth or to engineer the dispersion Interface with driver team to enable tailored solution Lead the characterization of high-speed modulators and work closely with the test team Design and validate photonic components, subsystems and circuits Define test plans and analyze experimental data in R&D phase Work closely with component/module teams Work closely with the processing team Requirements & Qualifications: In depth knowledge of integrated optics Education requirements, PHD. in Photonics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field having 3 years of work experience MS. in Photonics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field having 6 years of work experience Experience requirements Design of photonic components in silicon photonics or III/V materials Track record of successful (project) management of high-speed modulator development Hands-on experience with RF modelling tools Hands-on experience with the RF characterization of high-speed components General knowledge of silicon photonics devices and process flow Hands-on experience with layout tools (e.g. Luceda Ipkiss) Experience with Python would be an advantage Experience with Linux would be an advantage Language : Fluent in English (written and spoken) Attitude Strong team player Excellent written and oral communication skills Creativity in problem-solving Continuous improvement
