Lead PLC Automation Engineer – Dutch + English – ALTEN Belgium
The Role
ALTEN Belgium is looking for a Lead PLC Automation Engineer to join our Test Facilities team in Wilrijk, Belgium. You will manage, optimize, and expand PLC systems, starting by supporting and debugging existing installations and quickly applying automation solutions to new systems.
You will work on process installations including valves, control valves, and pressure/flow meters, handle electrical upgrades from old to new PLCs, set up OPC UA communication between systems, and support SCADA WinCC OA. Limited modifications on Schneider PLCs are also part of the role.
Your Responsibilities
* Support and debug Siemens S7-1500 PLCs using TIA Portal
* Independently apply, adapt, and expand PLC code on other installations
* Electrically upgrade and connect components when transitioning from old to new PLC systems
* Debug PLC installations
* Assist in setting up OPC UA communication between PLCs and other systems
* Perform limited modifications on Schneider PLCs
* Collaborate with other team members in Test Facilities and report to team lead and project lead
* Learn and support the SCADA system WinCC OA
Your Profile
* Experience as a PLC Engineer in a similar role, with a proactive and independent approach
* Deep knowledge of Siemens S7-1500 PLCs and TIA Portal
* Experience with OPC UA communication is a plus
* Practical knowledge of electrical installations, especially focused on upgrading, wiring, and debugging PLC components
* Experience with WinCC OA is an advantage
* Knowledge of C-scripting is a plus
* Willingness to work with Schneider PLCs
* Strong communication skills and a team-oriented approach
* Basic networking knowledge is an asset
* Education: Professional Bachelor or Industrial Engineer with relevant work experience
