We're working with an established SaaS business in Antwerp looking to further improve one of it's mobile applications with a talented Android Engineer skilled in Kotlin.
You will play an important role in developing & maintaining Android applications used at scale. You will take technical responsibility for projects, contribute to architectural decisions, and support the growth of other engineers.
Working closely with product and backend teams, the role focuses on delivering well-crafted mobile experiences while improving how Android development is approached across the organisation.
Responsibilities
* Owning the technical direction of Android projects, including architecture, code quality, and development standards
* Designing and developing Android applications using Kotlin (and Java where appropriate), with a focus on long-term maintainability and performance
* Leading technical discussions, reviews, and decision-making related to Android products
* Collaborating cross-functionally to translate product goals into well-executed features
* Establishing and improving testing strategies, automation, and CI workflows
* Ensuring consistent performance, stability, and usability across devices and OS versions
* Diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues and performance bottlenecks
* Evaluating new tools, libraries, and platform updates for practical adoption
* Coaching and supporting less experienced engineers
* Contributing to a culture of ownership, experimentation, and continuous improvement
Your Profile
* 4+ years of professional Android development experience, including at least one production app
* Strong expertise in Kotlin, Android SDK, and modern Android architecture patterns (Jetpack, MVVM, Room, etc.)
* Experience taking technical leadership on projects and guiding architectural choices
* Solid understanding of mobile UI/UX principles and accessible, responsive design
* Experience integrating APIs, managing local storage, concurrency, and performance optimisation
* Familiarity with automated testing tools, CI/CD pipelines, and Git-based workflows
* Knowledge of software design patterns, scalable architectures, and mobile security practices
* Exposure to iOS development or cross-platform frameworks is considered an advantage
* Comfortable working in agile, cross-functional teams
* Strong analytical thinking, communication skills, and attention to detail
* A mindset focused on learning, improvement, and knowledge sharing
* A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience
* Professional fluency in English; additional languages are a plus
