* The proper functioning of the electricity market is one of the key elements in the energy transition. client plays a central role in facilitating the market and is responsible, among other things, for numerous ancillary services designed to ensure reliable operation of the electricity system.
* Within the Energy Markets & Adequacy department, the Ancillary Service team is responsible for these ancillary services, including balancing services (FCR, aFRR and mFRR). These ensure that injections and off-takes into client's grid are balanced at all times. These services are thus indispensable for the safe and efficient integration of renewable energy, typically characterized by rapid variations and forecasting errors.
* Within the team the service will be responsible for analyzing the flexibility available in the system. You support colleagues in your own and other teams within client with information for improving products and market mechanisms, developing scenarios for expected future flexibility and estimating possible flexibility shortages in the system. In addition, the service will analyze whether the current developments of flexibility in the system are on track for facilitating the energy transition or not.
* The service will take a central place in setting up and maintaining a dashboard, yet to be developed, with indicators around flexibility in the system, such as the number of installed flexible assets (heat pumps, electric cars, home batteries,...), the number of these assets that are effectively capable of responding or or already effectively responding to a price (dynamic tariffs) or other signals (capacity tariffs) and the profiles with which these assets can respond.
* This information is currently not centrally available and your role is to search and capture existing information in a clear dashboard. This information can be found through desktop research (regulators' websites,...), contacting market parties (distribution system operators, sector federations,...) or devising and working out inventive ways to retrieve unavailable information.
* Additionally, the service is also expected to be able to perform statistical analyses on available time series of renewable energy forecast errors, market player behavior (nominations and their adjustments) and system imbalances. The results of such analyses are an important addition to the dashboard.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Gathering information on available flexibility through various channels (desktop research, interviews, data analysis, estimation methods)
* Setting up a dashboard in excel (or Power BI) where information is kept up to date in an organized way
* Developing and conducting data analyses to determine the relationship between renewable energy forecast errors, market player behavior and system imbalances
* Connecting the various elements to get a total view of the installed (related to the hardware, e.g. electric cars), available (able to react on price or other signals), and the effectively activated flexibility in the system (observed modification of the consumption profile following a price or other signal)
* Calibrating scenarios for the expected presence of flexibility in the system for client's next Adequacy and flexibility study
* Connecting possible applications for different departments and disseminating the results internally
