About the Role
We are seeking a Product Manager with a strong understanding of the Belgian and broader European electricity markets to join our EMS/VPP innovation team. You will help define and scale the CIOC Energy platform, enabling customers to participate in electricity markets, imbalance trading, flexibility markets, and VPP operations, and to monetize their energy assets.
For this position, industry knowledge is more important than generic product experience. We are specifically looking for candidates who understand how electricity markets work and who have hands-on experience at an energy company, BRP/BSP, DSO/TSO, or VPP operator.
Key Responsibilities
Product Development & Strategy
* Act as the Product Owner for the EMS/VPP roadmap across B2B, C&I and multi-market applications.
* Design and deliver product features supporting asset connectivity, real-time monitoring, imbalance trading, and flexibility market participation.
* Translate Belgian and EU market rules into product capabilities and algorithms for VPP operations.
* Work closely with engineering teams to ensure technical feasibility and high-quality delivery.
Market Understanding & Industry Analysis
* Conduct deep research on Belgian and European electricity and flexibility markets.
* Understand and analyze platforms/mechanisms used by Fluvius, Elia, BRP balancing obligations, imbalance settlement, Flex markets, EPEX Spot, Intraday, FCR/aFRR/FFR, etc.
* Track regulatory changes from TSOs/DSOs.
* Analyze competitors and provide strategic recommendations.
Product Implementation & Support
* Coordinate cross-functional cooperation across engineering, operations, marketing and sales.
* Act as the technical product expert for customer projects and commercial teams.
* Support product launches, internal training and customer communication.
Education & Qualifications
* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Energy Systems, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Energy Economics, Business Engineering, or related fields.
* Minimum 3 years of experience in the European electricity industry with essential experience at an Energy Supplier, BRP/BSP, TSO/DSO, aggregator, or VPP operator.
Core Skills & Knowledge
Deep Knowledge of EU Electricity Markets
* Strong understanding of Belgian market structure (Fluvius, Elia, BRP balancing, Flex markets).
* Knowledge of EPEX Spot, Intraday markets, FCR/aFRR/FFR, imbalance pricing.
* Familiarity with BESS, EMS, VPP technologies.
* Understanding of VPP platform functions (APIs, scheduling, optimization algorithms).
Technical Skills
* Basic data analytics (SQL or Python preferred).
* Agile/Scrum experience.
* Familiarity with SaaS architectures and APIs.
Personal Attributes
* Languages: Fluent English; French or Dutch is a strong plus.
* Travel: Occasional short business trips in Europe.
* Strong ownership, fast learner, scale-up mindset.
