We are looking for "Lead Naval Structural Engineer (M/F)" for one of our clients, to be based in Ghent, Belgium.
"Lead Naval Structural Engineer M/F". What will your responsibilities and missions be?
Main responsibilities:
Lead Naval Structural Engineer – Major Marine Infrastructure Projects
* Take ownership of one of our flagship marine infrastructure projects, acting as the primary point of contact between the client, internal team, and external partners (including joint venture partners, engineering consultancies, subcontractors, and construction contractors)
* Oversee project execution by your team, ensuring timely delivery, high quality, and financial performance. Proactively monitor progress and client satisfaction while identifying risks or potential deviations in financial outcomes
* Serve as the project’s principal engineer, coordinating and mentoring junior engineers and CAD designers
* Contribute directly to the design of marine infrastructure, including preliminary, basic, tender, and detailed phases. Projects may involve port and waterway developments, master planning, locks, quay walls, jetties, bridge foundations, dikes, breakwaters, and flood protection systems
* Perform technical analyses to determine optimal installation methods, always seeking innovative or alternative approaches
* Ensure that all design work complies with Belgian and European standards, codes, legislation, and internal guidelines
* Promote an integrated design approach by collaborating across disciplines and guiding the project from concept to completion
* Act as liaison between Tractebel’s competence centers and the joint venture partner across water infrastructure, road infrastructure, spatial planning, mobility, and equipment
* Coordinate closely with the Ports and Waterways team to align marine engineering design efforts
* Guarantee adherence to our quality system and health & safety regulations throughout project execution
* Foster knowledge sharing within your domain of expertise and support the development of junior team members
What profile and skills are required for this "Lead Naval Structural Engineer M/F" Position?
* Master of Science in Structural Engineering, with a specialization in Dredging and Offshore Engineering, Construction Design, or Marine Engineering
* Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in technical design within the marine and structural engineering domain
* Fluent in Dutch with excellent command of English, both written and spoken
* Proven experience applying relevant design codes and standards for structural and soil-structure interaction design in marine infrastructure projects, including quay walls, sheet piles, combi walls, anchors, and similar structures
* Proficient in structural and geotechnical modeling tools, including SCIA Engineer, Plaxis, GeoStudio, and/or D-Sheet Piling
* Skilled in the design of concrete reinforcement for complex 3D structures
* In-depth knowledge of applicable Belgian and European design standards and codes, including Eurocodes (EC2, EC7), NEN, EAU, SB250, SB260, and ISO guidelines
* Experienced in project management, with a strong track record of delivering high-quality outcomes on time and within budget
* Familiar with financial reporting and contract management, particularly in projects for public sector clients
* Strong team player with excellent communication skills, a quality-driven mindset, and a client-focused approach
* Experienced in competitive bidding processes, including conceptual design, rapid cost estimation, fee proposals, and client/authority presentations
* Willing to travel abroad for short or medium-term assignments
* Holder of a Category B driving license or international equivalent
