Reports To

Background

* The Technician is responsible for executing maintenance and preservation tasks efficiently and safely to ensure the reliability and longevity of equipment. This role involves performing a variety of maintenance and preservation activities, including but not limited to cleaning, housekeeping, blasting, spraying/painting, isolation and reinstatement, greasing application, and the preservation of topside items like flanges, bolts and valves.
* The technician is also responsible for ensuring that his supervisor is made aware of all activities according to procedure, especially when safety is an issue.
* The technician/operator will demonstrate exemplary safety awareness and technical competence in all aspects of maintenance and preservation work on and around the vessel.


Authority

* The Instrument Technician is authorized to maintain Instrument assets and systems safely.

* Subcontractors, Visitors, Vendor Representatives


Accountable For: Responsibilities & Standards

* 1) Dismantle and reassemble instrumentation equipment
* 1
* Identify potential sources of hazard prior to dismantling.
* 2
* Use correct procedures and method of dismantling.
* 3
* Carry out the correct isolation and disconnection procedure.
* 4
* Identify, check and prepare components.
* 5
* Apply appropriate tests and testing equipment to ensure reassembly is correct and effective.
* 2) Monitor and maintain the condition of instrumentation equipment.
* 1
* Adjust instruments to meet operational specifications.
* 2
* Adjust with minimum disruption to ongoing activities and minimum waste of resources.
* 3
* Monitor and record work history in logs.
* 3) Diagnose faults in equipment.
* 1
* Respond promptly to problems in line with approved procedures.
* 2
* Select appropriate tests and diagnostic procedures and apply them methodically.
* 3
* Carry out visual, close, and detailed inspections on equipment.
* 4
* Use inspection results to determine appropriate actions.
* 5
* Record a complete and accurate description in the appropriate document history.
* 4) Monitor and maintain pollution control measures.
* 1
* Unplanned discharges to the environment are identified, halted where possible, and reported per policy and regulations.
* 2
* Relevant PPE is used to deal with unplanned discharges using company procedures.
* 3
* Equipment, waste or other materials for disposal are handled according to the correct procedure.
* 4
* Environmental protection and pollution control are effectively enforced with colleagues, subordinates and subcontractors.
* 5) Emergency response
* 1 Carry out emergency response role (See Station Bill).
* 2 Demonstrate competence in emergency response drills and exercises.

Pre‑hire Qualifications and Experience

* Proven experience and/or qualification to N/SVQ/HNC/HND in Instrument Engineering or local equivalent.
* Experience desired with offshore experience preferred.
* Experience and knowledge of hydrocarbon processing systems and utilities.
* Good experience of Permit to Work, Instrument/Mechanical isolation standards and risk assessment.
* COMP ex e’X’ course preferred.
* Medically fit according to The Company GEMS Instruction Health Requirements to Work Offshore.
