FPGA ENGINEER - LEUVEN (BELGIUM) - PERMANENT POSITION
Job Summary:
We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated FPGA Engineer to support the development of next-generation electronics for imaging systems used in scientific, medical, aerospace, and industrial applications.
This role focuses on implementing real-time digital logic for image acquisition, sensor synchronization, signal conditioning, and high-throughput data transfer.
You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and verifying custom FPGA solutions using VHDL, working across the entire development lifecycle - from requirements gathering and architecture definition to simulation, hardware validation, and integration.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to tightly integrated hardware-software solutions and work at the forefront of imaging technology. You will collaborate closely with electronics engineers, embedded software developers, and systems architects in a dynamic, innovation-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Design, implement, and verify digital logic using VHDL for FPGAs (e.g., Xilinx, Intel/Altera, Lattice).
* Develop and maintain FPGA cores for high-speed image capture, real-time processing, and sensor control.
* Integrate FPGAs into imaging systems, interfacing with sensors, processors, memory, and I/O.
* Perform synthesis, static timing analysis, and resource optimization using tools such as Vivado or Quartus.
* Simulate designs and verify functionality using tools like ModelSim or Questa.
* Support lab testing, hardware bring-up, and debugging using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG tools.
* Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to define system architecture and interface specifications.
* Write comprehensive documentation including design specifications, test plans, and verification reports.
Required Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
* Strong proficiency in VHDL and digital logic design for FPGAs.
* Experience with FPGA development tools (e.g., Xilinx Vivado, Intel Quartus).
* Solid understanding of timing constraints, clock domain crossing, state machines, and FIFOs.
* Experience interfacing with common digital protocols (e.g., I2C, SPI, UART, LVDS, MIPI, Camera Link).
* Hands-on experience debugging hardware and verifying designs in lab environments.
* Familiarity with image sensors or real-time data acquisition is a plus.
* Understanding of low-latency and high-throughput FPGA design principles.
The Offer:
* A permanent, full-time employment contract
* A salary & benefits package commensurate with experience
