About us Challenge Airlines (BE) S.A. is an airline based in Liege Airport (LGG) with a Belgian AOC. The airline operates daily scheduled cargo flights and charter services carrying nonstandard goods and general cargo internationally. Challenge Airlines (BE) is part of a Global airline group that carries approximately 400,000 tons of cargo annually. Job purpose The job purpose is to provide end-to-end managerial control of crew scheduling and crew control within the Global Command & Control Center, ensuring flight crew resources are planned, assigned, monitored, and recovered in a safe, legal, operationally effective, and cost-efficient manner across all Challenge Group AOCs. The role ensures full compliance with applicable regulations and approved company procedures, supports regulatory audits and inspections, and governs both planning-phase crew scheduling and operational-phase crew control. It ensures seamless integration between Network Planning in the tactical phase and GCC real-time operations and duty management in the operational phase. As a core member of the GCC Management Team, the position contributes to operational stability, performance, and leadership effectiveness by fostering clear communication, shared accountability, and strong collaboration within crewing teams and across the wider GCC. Your responsibilities Lead and govern end-to-end crew scheduling and crew control, covering medium- and short-term planning, roster construction and publication, real-time control, and structured handover into GCC operations. Ensure efficient crew utilization through optimized pairings, reserve planning, crew positioning, deadheading, travel coordination, and continuous validation of crew qualifications and training status. Direct real-time crew control activities, including continuous monitoring of duty and rest, legalities, qualifications, and reserve availability, and lead crew recovery during disruptions such as delays, diversions, AOG events, sickness, and misconnects. Act as escalation authority for crewing decisions beyond controller scope and assume a Crew Control shift when operationally required. Ensure full compliance with FTL, FRM, applicable AOC regulations, company policies, and approved SOPs, including identification of trends, risks, and systemic issues related to crew legality and fatigue. Escalate safety or compliance concerns as required and lead audits, inspections, and regulatory oversight related to crewing activities. Provide functional and hierarchical leadership to Crew Scheduling and Crew Control teams, ensuring adequate staffing, training, competence, and disciplined shift handovers. Build and sustain a high-performing, professional, and collaborative team culture based on clear roles, accountability, and effective decision making in a 24/7 operational environment. Maintain and develop Crew Scheduling and Crew Control SOPs, work instructions, and consistent use of crewing and operational systems. Drive process harmonization across AOCs and GCC functions and lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, resilience, and risk reduction. Coordinate closely with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring a professional, solution oriented interface with flight crew and other partners. Provide management-level reporting on crew utilization, disruption impact, and recovery performance. Actively contribute as a member of the GCC Management Team, promoting a “one GCC team” mindset and strong cross-functional cooperation during normal operations, disruptions, and peak periods. Your profile Education Bachelor degree of higher EASA FTL/FRM courses Experience, skills and personal attributes Minimum 5 years’ managerial experience in aviation operations, crew scheduling, crew control, or flight operations, with a strong understanding of EASA FTL, crew rostering and recovery, and Fatigue Risk Management. Proven experience leading operational teams in time-critical, high-pressure environments, with demonstrated capability to make sound decisions and communicate effectively. Strong leadership and people management skills, including the ability to build, develop, motivate, coach, and mentor high-performing teams based on trust,collaboration, and shared accountability. Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, enabling constructive engagement across all organizational levels. Strong analytical capability and decision-making discipline, supported by clear and structured communication. Experience in multi-AOC or international operational environments. Fluent English; working knowledge of French and/or Dutch is an advantage. Advanced proficiency in crewing and operational systems, Blue-One would be considered as an asset Availability outside office hours to support Crew Control as required. Client-oriented mindset, treating flight crew as primary operational customers. Strong operational leadership with a clear focus on safety, compliance, and disciplined execution. Structured and balanced decision making, including effective stake holder coordination in complex environments. High resilience and composure under pressure, with the ability to lead effectively in time-critical situations. Ability to lead by example and foster a culture of accountability, professionalism, and teamwork.
