Overview
Join the UC Leuven-Limburg team as a Lector OPO Economie in Pba Sociaal Werk (30%). This part‑time role focuses on developing teaching and research in economics within social work.
Responsibilities
* Develop and deliver lectures on economic fundamentals and their application in social work.
* Introduce key concepts such as demand and supply, markets, economic systems, circularity and economic growth.
* Explain economic policy (budgetary, monetary, income and labour market policy) and its link to social policy.
* Apply economic frameworks to contemporary societal themes (e.g., migration, housing) in relation to social work.
* Design practice‑based assignments and case studies that stimulate critical thinking.
* Guide students in analyzing decisions of families, enterprises and governments and estimating consequences.
* Evaluate assignments and exams and provide constructive feedback.
Competencies and Expectations
* Analytical and content competencies: in depth knowledge of economic concepts and policy frameworks; ability to translate insights to social work contexts and societal questions.
* Didactic skills: clear and accessible explanation of complex concepts; design of interactive and practice‑based learning activities.
* Professional attitude: align with possibilities and constraints of individuals and groups; fluent communication in diverse social work practices.
* Research and reflection skills: stimulate critical thinking about societal and international developments.
Desired Knowledge and Experience
* Experience teaching economics or soci‑economic contexts.
* Affinity with social work and societal challenges.
* Ability to translate theoretical frameworks into practice‑based applications.
* Experience guiding students and working with case studies.
Teaching and Research Tasks (Teaching team)
* Part of the bachelor program social work teaching team.
* Co‑ordination of course offering and approach with curriculum responsible, quality partner and lector team.
* Lectures, coaching, evaluating students and developing learning material integral part of duties.
* Evaluation of goals, content and approach of enrolled units with permanent teaching committee.
* Continuous professional development in subject area and teaching methods.
* Active participation in curriculum workshops, educational meetings, etc.
* Other tasks in teaching, research, student services or other departments allowed.
* Reporting to the curriculum responsible for Social Work.
Offer
* Contractual part‑time guest professor on the UC Leuven vzw.
* Salary according to official Ministry of Education bareme: 502 Lector/Master or 316 Practical Lector/Bachelor.
* Fixed‑term contract from 9 February 2026 until return of the lecturer; replacement contract due to maternity.
* Campus: Sociale School Heverlee.
* Possibility to bring up to 10 years of relevant work experience.
* Reimbursement of public transport and/or bicycle commuting.

* Potential conversion to permanent contract per internal procedures.
