Beschrijving

Within the institute for materials research (imo-imomec) of Hasselt University and the LCP group of Gent University there is a PhD position on Cu(In,Ga)Se2/Perovskite (CIGS/Pk) thin film tandem solar cells. The combination of CIGS and Pk will allow for the development of tandem solar cells, which can be made lightweight and flexible. Both materials have high efficiencies > %, but are also known to contain mobile ions that diffuse over time. In this project, this effect will be examined for the CIGS/Pk tandem solar cells. A focus will be on the interconnection layers between the CIGS and Pk sub cells. Stand-alone devices will be prepared, measured and characterized. A model to understand these interconnection layers in the tandem structure is being developed at UGent and the student will work on the model to understand the electrical properties more in-depth.

This research will be performed in the EnergyVille laboratories in Genk, in collaboration with imec and the University of Gent, Research group: Liquid crystals and Photonic group. Besides being involved in the research and generation of scientific outputs, it is expected that the PhD student actively participates in the educational and outreach tasks of the faculty Engineering technology.

Profiel
