Freelance Rockwell Automation Engineer (ControlLogix / Studio 5000) – Ghent–Brugge
For an industrial production environment in the Ghent / Brugge region, we are looking for a senior Freelance Automation Engineer with strong Rockwell Automation expertise to take ownership of the automation scope across complex production line projects.
This role is Rockwell-centric and suited to engineers who have acted as the technical reference for ControlLogix-based systems, supplier validation, and on-site commissioning.
Your role
* Own the full Rockwell automation scope within multidisciplinary project teams
* Act as technical reference for Rockwell standards, architecture, and motion control
* Report functionally to the Lead Engineer and hierarchically to the Automation Engineering Manager
* Prepare RFQs, support tendering, and manage supplier interfaces together with procurement
* Define automation and safety strategies, including:
* Rockwell-based production line and OT network architecture
* Machine-to-machine and upstream system interfacing
* Safety zoning and machine safety concepts
* Validate supplier compliance with internal automation standards during:
* Contract phase
* Detailed design and execution
* Commissioning and start-up
* Hands-on support during commissioning, troubleshooting, and optimisation phases
Required expertise (non-negotiable)
* Rockwell Automation: ControlLogix, Studio 5000, Kinetix – mandatory & core to the role
* Commissioning and troubleshooting of Rockwell-based production lines
* OT networks: industrial switching, VLANs, machine communication
* Machine Directive & CE compliance
* Electrical safety standards (EN 60204-1)
* Field cabling and on-site industrial commissioning experience
Nice to have
* Siemens automation experience (TIA Portal, S7)
* Experience working with multiple OEMs and system integrators
Language & mobility
* Dutch-speaking engineers strongly preferred
* English required for technical documentation and international stakeholders
* Willingness to travel abroad for short assignments (typically 2–3 weeks)
Contract details
* Freelance / Contract – 6 months + extension
* Full-time, project-based assignment
* Location: Ghent–Brugge region (on-site presence required)
