Role Overview
We are supporting a leading semiconductor organisation based in Brussels that is expanding its advanced research capabilities. They are seeking a Machine Learning Researcher to work at the intersection of machine learning, data science, and semiconductor technology.
This role is research-driven, with a strong focus on developing novel ML models and algorithms that can be applied to complex, real-world engineering and manufacturing challenges. You will collaborate closely with research scientists, engineers, and product teams to translate theoretical work into practical impact.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct applied and fundamental research in machine learning and related areas
* Design, develop, and evaluate ML models for complex datasets generated from semiconductor processes and systems
* Explore topics such as deep learning, probabilistic models, optimisation, and time-series or signal-based data
* Translate research outcomes into prototypes, proofs of concept, or production-ready solutions
* Publish findings internally and externally (papers, technical reports, patents where applicable)
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware engineers, data engineers, and software developers
* Stay current with state-of-the-art research and emerging trends in machine learning and AI
Required Skills and Experience
* Advanced degree (MSc or PhD) in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
* Strong theoretical understanding of machine learning algorithms and statistical methods
* Hands-on experience with Python and ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX
* Experience working with large, complex, or noisy datasets
* Solid foundations in mathematics, including linear algebra, probability, and optimisation
* Ability to clearly communicate complex ideas to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Nice to Have
* Experience applying ML in industrial, scientific, or engineering environments
* Background or exposure to semiconductor manufacturing, electronics, or hardware systems
* Publications in peer-reviewed conferences or journals
* Experience with high-performance computing or cloud-based ML workflows
