We are looking for an Indirect Tax Technology Specialist who is proactive, collaborative, and tech-savvy to join our Tax team, based at the HQ, in Brussels, Belgium. About the role
You will be focusing on supporting and enhancing UCB’s indirect tax technology landscape in Europe and globally. You will be responsible for maintaining and optimizing existing systems and tools for indirect tax compliance and reporting, especially those integrated with SAP. The role allows to grow also in the direct tax compliance area depending on the development of UCB’s tax function.
You will be working closely with the Indirect Tax Lead in supporting continuous improvement initiatives and the implementation of new technologies and processes to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and compliance in a rapidly evolving indirect tax environment.
This role requires technical foundation in tax systems, especially SAP, along with direct hands-on experience in implementing tax tools.
While English is the working language for this role, a working knowledge of French is considered an asset.
Who you’ll work with
You will be working in a cross-functional team that includes tax, finance, supply chain and IT professionals. You’ll report to the Indirect Tax Lead and will collaborate closely with other stakeholders. Your ability to work transversally and drive change will be key to success in this international and dynamic regulatory environment.
What you’ll do
1. Tax Technology: Apply appropriate technologies to ensure compliance with digital reporting obligations. Reimagine existing data, digital tools, and AI capabilities to optimize and enhance the efficiency of the indirect tax function. Stay informed about emerging indirect tax technologies relevant to UCB. Create indirect tax technology awareness across the organization.
2. Implementations: Manage implementation projects in collaboration with IT and other stakeholders. Facilitate the deployment and the respective documentation of e-invoicing solutions, tax engines, and other relevant tools to support indirect tax operations.
3. System Maintenance: Ensure that indirect-tax-relevant fields in SAP are well maintained and documented. Drive the necessary SAP developments and configurations to ensure compliance. Keep the Meridian VAT add-on updated in line with business changes. Support the team with respect to data analytics and data analytics tools to extract insights and improve decision-making within the indirect tax function.
4. Indirect Tax Compliance: Recommend and implement improvements to the indirect tax compliance process through automation and technology. Support the indirect tax compliance activities and assist in transitions to new tax compliance service providers as needed. Assess, document, and improve processes and data flows.
5. Tax Control Framework: Continuously strengthen UCB’s indirect tax policies and control framework.
6. Audits (Controversy): Apply technology to streamline and support indirect tax audits in the most efficient manner. Continuously review and enhance indirect tax processes to improve audit readiness through the use of digital tools.
Interested? For this role we’re looking for the following education, experience and skills
7. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field
8. Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in indirect tax technology, including consulting and in-house roles
9. Hands-on experience with implementation and/or maintenance of tax tools (e.g. tax engines, SAP DRC, SAF-T and e-invoicing tools) and maintenance of tax-relevant items in SAP.
10. Familiarity with data analytics tools such as Alteryx, Power BI, etc.
11. High-level knowledge of European VAT regulations and familiarity with e-invoicing and digital reporting solutions including SAF-T.
12. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an international environment
