What You Will Be Doing Umicore is seeking a dynamic, experienced Trade Compliance Project Manager (with a primary focus on customs). You will lead strategic, cross‑functional projects that ensure regulatory compliance, reduce customs‑related costs, and standardise customs processes across regions. The role drives change across diverse teams and geographies and enhances internal controls while aligning global practices with local regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage global customs compliance projects from planning to execution.
Ensure alignment with international customs laws and local regulatory requirements.
Identify and implement process improvements in cooperation with the Global Process Owner (GPO) to optimise customs operations and reduce costs.
Drive standardisation and harmonisation of customs procedures across regions in cooperation with the GPO.
Coordinate with internal stakeholders, compliance teams, and external partners.
Monitor project performance and report progress to senior leadership.
Support change‑management and training to ensure successful adoption of new practices.
Analyse performance metrics to evaluate the success of customs compliance projects and adjust strategies as needed to drive continuous improvement.
Share best practices and lessons learned across regions and business units to foster operational excellence.
Who We Are Looking For
Master’s degree in Business, Law or a related field.
In‑depth knowledge of international trade regulations and compliance standards.
5+ years of substantial experience in project management, specifically focused on customs compliance and trade regulation.
Proficiency with international customs regulations (EU, US, China, etc.) and related frameworks.
Experience working in large, multinational organisations, particularly in customs compliance functions.
Proven ability to lead and manage complex projects across business units, departments, and regions.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
Experience with trade compliance systems (e.g., SAP GTS, AEB).
Excellent command of English; knowledge of Dutch or German is a plus.
Strong problem‑solving skills and stress resilience.
Analytical, lateral & conceptual thinking and decision‑making ability.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, combined with an internal customer orientation.
Proactive team player with strong leadership skills and the ability to work independently when needed.
