Director for Regulatory and Technical Affairs
AnimalhealthEurope is a Brussels-based trade association representing 12 of Europe's leading manufacturers of animal medicines and 17 national associations in 19 countries, covering 90% of the European Market. The animal health industry provides tools for 300,000 veterinarians to care for millions of animals across Europe, supporting 3 million livestock farms and 91 million households with pets across Europe.
As Director for Regulatory and Technical Affairs, your main objective is to position AnimalhealthEurope with the EU agencies and policy makers regulating veterinary medicines as the leading association in Europe covering animal health. You will also engage with and align where possible with EU-based trade associations on relevant regulatory issues.
In this role, you will lead and manage regulatory and technical activities related to veterinary medicines and animal health products. Reporting directly to the Secretary General, you will play a pivotal role in shaping regulatory strategies, advocating for favorable policies, and ensuring a conducive regulatory environment.
Key Responsibilities and Activities
1. Regulatory Environment: Develop and implement regulatory activities to support the registration, approval, and marketing of veterinary medicines and animal health products in Europe.
2. Regulatory Standards and Guidelines: Provide guidance and support to internal teams and member companies regarding relevant EU and international standards and guidelines.
3. Technical Expertise: Stay informed about emerging scientific, regulatory, and technological developments in animal health, providing expert guidance to inform decision-making.
4. Regulatory Intelligence: Monitor and analyze regulatory developments and trends at national, regional, and international levels, offering updates and recommendations to the relevant committees.
5. Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with industry partners and external stakeholders to address regulatory challenges and advance common objectives.
6. Committee Management: Manage AnimalhealthEurope’s Technical and Regulatory Committee (TRC), including drafting agendas, preparing content, drafting minutes, and implementing actions.
7. Team Leadership: Lead a team of regulatory and technical professionals, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning.
8. Travel: Ability to travel frequently and internationally as required.
Minimum Requirements
* In-depth knowledge of European regulatory frameworks, guidelines, and procedures for veterinary medicines and animal health products.
* Understanding of EU institutions, policies, and processes, especially regarding the European Medicines Agency and national agencies.
* Experience at the EU level in healthcare, agriculture, digital, or environmental topics.
* Strategic, solutions-oriented thinking with creative skills and rapid assimilation of complex issues.
* Ability to manage cross-functional projects, work independently, and take ownership to ensure timely completion.
* Proven skills in prioritization, organization, time management, and meeting deadlines.
* Leadership experience, including people development.
Education and Skills
* University degree or equivalent in pharmacy, life sciences, or related fields; additional qualification in regulatory affairs is advantageous. Education in animal or life sciences is also beneficial.
* Language skills: English as the working language; proficiency in other EU languages is a plus.
* Strong networking, communication, and public speaking skills; ability to engage positively with critics; ability to identify priority audiences and deliver succinct messages both verbally and in writing.
Experience
* Minimum of 5 years of experience in a regulatory role within Europe.
* Total professional experience of at least 10 years.
