About the RoleWe're partnering with a high-growth fintech company in West Flanders that is transforming the financial services landscape through innovative, technology-driven and SaaS-based solutions. As the business continues to scale, they are looking for a Chief Accountant to take ownership of core accounting operations and help build a robust, future-proof finance function.This is a hands-on leadership role where you will combine technical accounting expertise with process improvement and automation, working closely with senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
Key ResponsibilitiesLead and oversee end-to-end accounting operations for Belgian entitiesManage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closings, ensuring accuracy and timelinessPrepare and review statutory financial statements (BE GAAP) and support IFRS reporting where applicableEnsure full VAT compliance and regulatory reporting, including fintech/digital services considerationsAct as the primary contact for auditors, tax advisors, and external stakeholdersSupervise and mentor a small accounting team, driving performance and developmentStrengthen internal controls, policies, and procedures in a fast-scaling environmentLead process optimisation and automation initiatives, including ERP and finance systems improvementsCollaborate with FP&A and business teams to support budgeting, forecasting, and performance analysisOversee and enhance revenue recognition processes, particularly for SaaS and subscription models
RequirementsBachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics7–10+ years of experience in accounting, with at least initial leadership exposureStrong knowledge of BE GAAP (IFRS is a plus)Experience in fintech, SaaS, or tech environments is highly preferredProven experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite, Exact)Solid understanding of VAT and Belgian statutory requirementsExperience with automation and process improvement is a strong advantageFluent in Dutch and English (French is a plus)Hands-on, structured, and able to operate in a fast-paced, evolving environment
