Nikon Metrology develops world-class X-ray and CT systems used across industrial inspection, metrology, and research. We are seeking a hands-on Software Engineer with a mechatronics background to join our Global X-ray Software team and contribute to end-to-end system performance, reliability, and maintainability. Role overview As a Software Engineer with a mechatronics focus, you will work across software, mechanics, electronics, and physics to understand and optimize the entire X-ray/CT system. You'll diagnose issues across domains, implement robust software solutions, and collaborate with hardware, firmware, and imaging algorithm teams to ensure the system operates as intended. This role blends practical troubleshooting, software development, and a solid understanding of all aspects of X-ray machines. Key responsibilities Develop and maintain software for X-ray/CT systems with an emphasis on accuracy, reliability, performance, and maintainability. Test and validate software against real hardware. Use a mechatronics mindset to understand the full system: mechanics, electronics, firmware interfaces, physics of X-ray imaging, and software control. Diagnose and triage system issues that may arise in software, mechanical, electronic, or physics domains;

What we're looking for Master's degree in an engineering discipline, with proven experience delivering software that makes machines work in a mechatronics context (industrial machinery, imaging systems, robotics, or instrumentation). Strong programming skills; experience with languages such as C++, C#, Python, or similar, and a track record of applying software to hardware-enabled systems. Solid understanding of - or a solid motivation to understand - mechanics, electronics, and physics as they pertain to X-ray imaging systems; ability to diagnose cross-domain issues. Strong communication skills and ability to work across multidisciplinary teams. Fluent English; Dutch is a plus but notrequired.
