Job Description
We are seeking a Membrane Application Engineer for our European Technology Centre of
Excellence in Heverlee, Belgium. The role focuses on advanced membrane technology
analysis, including electro-separations (ED, BPED), autopsies, failure investigations, fouling
studies, and other laboratory-scale process optimization across various membrane systems
(Reverse Osmosis, Ultra/Nanofiltration - including flat sheet, spiral wound and hollow fiber
configurations).
Role Summary & Responsibilities:
● Conduct feasibility trials for Bipolar-ED and ED-applications on a laboratory-scale
pilot, including:
○ Assessing the compatibility of selected membranes with customer's feed.
○ Simulating various process stages, such as achieving maximum acid and
caustic concentrations, as well as maximum feed dilution.
● Maintain effective communication with the assigned process engineer for:
○ Discussions regarding each feasibility protocol and its scope.
○ Discussion of obtained data and potential challenges encountered.
● Processing data obtained from the feasibility trials and provide those results to
Process engineers
● Compose comprehensive analytical reports and/or presentations for internal
stakeholders, incorporating processed pilot data and analytical data from trial
samples.
● Support in the failure analyses occurring in membrane systems (reverse osmosis,
ultra-/nanofiltration membranes, flat sheet spiral wound as well as hollow fiber).
● Design and execute separation/purification pilot studies
● Conduct analytical testing using Scanning Electron Microscopy
● Coordinate with cross-functional teams for specialized analyses (organic,
microbiological, water quality)
● Collaborate with product application and engineering teams across EMEA
Qualifications
Qualifications:
● Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Engineering, or
Bioscience Engineering
● Fluency in English (verbal and written communication).
Experience & Skills:
● Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
● Possession of excellent verbal and written communication skills.
● Advanced proficiency in laboratory techniques and instrumentation.
● Relevant experience is considered advantageous.
● Programming skills are considered a favorable addition.
