We are looking for an experienced
Mechanical Superintendent
to support construction supervision activities on a large-scale industrial project in Belgium.
The role will be responsible for managing yard and construction activities, coordinating subcontractors and discipline supervisors, ensuring compliance with HSE, quality, and project requirements, and supporting timely and efficient execution of works.
This is a field-oriented role requiring strong leadership, coordination skills, and extensive experience in construction site management.
Key Responsibilities
HSE & Compliance
* Implement and enforce HSE procedures and standards in compliance with applicable laws and project requirements.
* Ensure work permits are obtained before activities start and that all permit conditions are respected.
* Promote safe working practices and proactively address unsafe acts, behaviours, and conditions.
* Support incident investigations and collaborate closely with HSE personnel.
* Maintain high housekeeping standards within the assigned area.
Construction & Yard Management
* Coordinate activities with other discipline supervisors to manage interfaces and avoid interferences.
* Organize and supervise daily activities of assigned supervisors, ensuring continuity and proper information sharing.
* Monitor subcontractor productivity in terms of quality and quantity, in coordination with Project Control.
* Ensure assigned activities are executed in line with the project schedule; identify delays and propose corrective actions.
* Review and manage field modifications in collaboration with the Construction Manager and Field Engineers, including preparation of sketches/layouts when required.
* Propose improvement solutions during construction execution and support responses to subcontractor site queries.
* Record approved modifications and support contractual change management.
* Prepare Requests for Work Execution (RWE) for extra works or field modifications in accordance with procedures.
Subcontractor & Progress Control
* Verify subcontractor manpower presence and validate timesheets when applicable.
* Prepare and review weekly/monthly progress reports and provide inputs to Project Control.
* Ensure availability of engineering documents, materials, and work areas to avoid delays and claims.
* Support the preparation, issuance, and closure of Construction and Final Punch Lists.
* Ensure subcontractors comply with approved ITPs and that inspections are called and executed in accordance with project procedures.
* Support QC inspectors during inspection activities and assist in identifying and resolving non-conformities.
Material & Equipment Management
* Verify material availability in advance in cooperation with Material Control and report any shortages.
* Ensure proper storage, identification, protection, and preservation of piping materials and prefabricated spools.
* Supervise equipment receipt, storage, assembly, installation, protection, and maintenance in accordance with vendor instructions and project procedures.
* Oversee lifting activities in coordination with lifting and safety supervisors.
* Support installation, testing, and final acceptance of equipment, including coordination with vendor personnel when required.
* Ensure proper handling and transfer of spare parts and preserved equipment.
Skill Requirements
* Solid technical background in the relevant discipline.
* Minimum 10 years of experience in construction site management roles.
* Valid VCA-VOL certification (can obtained later).
* Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
* High level of computer literacy (Word, Excel, AutoCAD, Navisworks or similar tools).
* Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
* Ethical behaviour and commitment to organizational values.
* Fluent written and spoken English.
