Tasks and responsibilities
You will join a development team responsible for a business-critical SCADA environment that operates 24/7 to support grid balancing across Belgium, France, Germany and the Netherlands. The scope is expanding, with the integration of smaller and more flexible assets.
The applications support real-time control of power plants, integration of flexibility assets, and compliance with European grid codes linked to the energy transition.
* Monitor production assets and available generation capacity.
* Enable operational information exchange between transmission system operators and the real-time SCADA environment.
* Calculate and send real-time setpoints to power plants based on production planning, live acquisition data and balancing inputs such as FCR, aFRR and mFRR.
* Develop and maintain the SCADA application landscape used for real-time balancing.
* Work on front-end and back-end components using SCIL, HTML5, CSS, JavaScript and TypeScript.
* Apply architectural design principles to build scalable, robust and resilient solutions.
* Use software craftsmanship principles such as SOLID, DRY, KISS and YAGNI to keep the codebase clean and maintainable.
* Collaborate in an Agile/SAFe environment with analysts, operators and technical stakeholders.
* Contribute to on-call support after onboarding to help ensure 24/7 system availability and operational continuity.
Requested profile
* You hold a master's degree in IT and/or electrical engineering, for example in software, electronics or electromechanics.
* You have at least 3 years of relevant experience.
* You combine an industrial mindset with strong software engineering skills, including architecture and design patterns.
* You understand the basics of electricity production and grid transport.
* You work proactively and in a structured way, with a strong focus on stability in a high-responsibility environment.
* You are prepared to support critical incidents when needed and can deliver a quick fix first, followed by a sustainable solution when required.
* You are motivated to work in a team responsible for real-time operations.
* You are a team player who collaborates easily with peers, analysts, architects, business stakeholders and other teams.
* You learn quickly, take initiative and actively contribute to improving the environment and ways of working.
* You communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing, with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
