From massive bridges to offshore modules - we transport it all. As a Barge Master, you're at the helm of our floating operations. You'll work on rivers, canals, and inland waters to ensure heavy transport and installation run smoothly, safely, and on time.
Your Role in a Nutshell
As Barge Master, you take the lead on water-based operations across Europe. You'll coordinate with engineers, tugboats, and the marine crew to execute transport and installation projects from barge platforms. Your work ensures stability, safety, and success on every job.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare, mobilise, and demobilise barges before and after each project
* Follow safety protocols and operational plans during all activities
* Carry out ballasting work using calculated data and instructions
* Read and execute the mooring and layout plans
* Operate winches, assist with mooring and anchor handling
* Support Ro-Ro, SPMT, and skidding operations during load-outs
* Coordinate crane setups and assist in lifting operations on water
* Attend toolbox talks and maintain safety compliance
* Maintain daily logs and report to the Lead Supervisor or Project Manager
* Collaborate closely with tugboat captains, project teams, and clients
What You Bring
Required Skills & Experience
* Proven experience with barge operations and inland waterway transport
* Knowledge of mooring, ballasting, and deck operations
* Ability to read basic technical plans (ballast, mooring, layout)
* Familiar with Ro-Ro and skidding techniques
* Strong team spirit and a safety-first mindset
* Good command of English (spoken and written)
* Willingness to travel and work across Europe
Preferred (Nice-to-Have)
* Marine operations or engineering background
* Experience with SPMT transport
* Certified in barge or deck operations
* Familiarity with crane activities on barges
