We are seeking a Medior Defensive Security Consultant for an 11-month freelance assignment with our client in Mechelen. This is your opportunity to drive impact in a mission-critical environment, shaping the security posture of a leading public sector organization.

Your expertise will directly influence the resilience and effectiveness of essential public services.
What You'll Be Doing
Analyze, optimize, and document security processes and governance frameworks for our client's digital landscape.
Enhance and implement monitoring rules (use cases) for blue team assignments, elevating threat detection and response capabilities.
Lead and participate in incident response activities, ensuring rapid containment and remediation of security events.
Utilize security tools for vulnerability analysis, penetration testing, and encryption to proactively identify and mitigate risks.
Develop and implement processes, scripts, and technologies within the context of a Security Operations Center (SOC).
Leverage MS365 security features and products (including MS Sentinel) to strengthen cloud and endpoint security.
Collect and analyze logs from diverse applications and systems using solutions such as the ELK stack.
Automate ICT components using scripting languages (Python, PowerShell) and automation tools (Ansible, Terraform).
Apply knowledge of security features within domains such as Azure AD, MFA, and conditional access.
Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure compliance with security management frameworks (ISO27000, COBIT, NIST, OWASP, CIS Controls).
Document and optimize security processes related to incident response and SOC activities.
What We're Looking For
Minimum 3 years of demonstrable experience as a Security Consultant in data, infrastructure, or application environments.
Proven expertise in at least one information security domain (e.g., security management processes, vulnerability analysis, penetration testing, application security, Privilege Access Management, encryption solutions).
Experience in the public sector, ideally with exposure to waste processing or Flemish government environments.
Hands-on experience improving monitoring rules and use cases for blue team/SOC assignments.
Strong incident response background, with a track record of effective crisis management.
Proficiency with security tools for vulnerability analysis, penetration testing, and encryption.
Experience with MS365 security features and products (MS Sentinel).
Familiarity with log collection and analysis solutions (ELK stack).
Ability to script and automate ICT components (Python, PowerShell, Ansible, Terraform).
Knowledge of security features in Azure AD, MFA, and conditional access.
Experience developing and implementing SOC processes, scripts, and technologies.
Demonstrable knowledge of security management frameworks (ISO27000, COBIT, NIST, OWASP, CIS Controls).
Relevant certifications (CISM, CISSP, CEH) are highly valued.
Ownership mindset, proactive problem-solving, and a drive for measurable impact.
Language Proficiency
Fluency in Dutch at European CEFR level C2 is required.

This is a freelance position for 11 months, based in Mechelen.
Assignment is part of a framework contract (2022–2027, Lot 1).
