YOUR ROLE
As a buyer, you manage innovative, complex and important purchasing files for Belgium and the Southwest Europe region, both in Belgium and in Europe, Italy or France.
You set up and follow administrative procedures for project purchasing, purchasing follow-up and suppliers, and you comply with them. You are responsible for 2/5 of your activities in the field of purchasing follow-up and reporting and are supported in this by purchasing colleagues.
You proactively analyse the needs of the organisation and discuss them with salespeople and project managers before projects are started. You can then develop an effective purchasing strategy. This exploration phase enables you to be involved in drawing up specifications for products and services.
The products and services to be purchased consist on the one hand of commodities (COTS = off the shelf) and on the other hand of customised products and services that must be developed in co-design and according to applicable standards.
You keep your knowledge of the market up to date and determine what you will import from other countries and what you will purchase yourself from existing and new suppliers and service providers. You meet regularly with suppliers to stay informed of new technologies and developments in the railway industry and you proactively look for new sources and new suppliers.
You have several months to prepare quotations and to check that the sellers' price calculations are correct. You organise the tendering process, analyse and compare quotations and negotiate with bidders to obtain the best price, quality, delivery and service conditions.
You place orders and ensure that they are executed correctly and on time, taking into account conditions, penalties, guarantees, etc.
