We are the Legal Division of the Euroclear Group holding company. A dynamic team of lawyers with a great team spirit!
Responsibilities will include providing legal advice and support on a wide range of matters, including:
1. Corporate & regulatory matters, particularly regulatory analysis related to corporate governance, AML, UN/EU/OFAC sanctions, embargoes, etc., affecting settlement services.
2. Handling disputes, claims, litigation, investigations, and regulatory issues. Leading and participating in all phases of cases, from assessment and investigation to drafting responses, reviewing pleadings, following court cases, and exploring settlement options. Collaborating closely with business clients, risk colleagues, other lawyers, and external counsel.
A good knowledge of the financial industry is essential.
Role:
As a litigation lawyer, your tasks will include:
1. Assisting the business in pre-litigation phases by advising on conflicts, claims, and reputational issues.
2. Drafting responses to claims, resolving liabilities, advising on mitigation, and guiding internal clients and management on legal merits.
3. Coordinating fact-finding, documentation, and liaising with outside counsel.
4. Reviewing pleadings and summons, monitoring court cases.
5. Reporting legal risks to senior management and advising on strategies.
6. Supervising outside counsel on legal strategies and budgets.
As a regulatory lawyer, your responsibilities will include:
1. Advising internal clients and management on the legal framework.
2. Preparing regulatory impact analyses for practical use cases.
3. Detailing Euroclear's services to clients, counterparts, service providers, and group entities.
4. Collaborating with legal teams across Euroclear Group entities, working closely with internal business units such as compliance, product management, and operations.
Technical Skills:
We seek a Belgian-qualified lawyer with:
* At least 5 years' experience in litigation, preferably in a law firm specializing in the financial sector or as in-house counsel at a bank, broker, or financial institution.
* Experience in internal investigations, complex litigation, and regulatory enforcement.
* Knowledge of Belgian law and financial market practices.
* Proficiency in French, Dutch, or German, and English.
