LET'S TALK ABOUT THE ROLE As a Distribution Center Optimization & Innovation Engineer, you will help improve the way our EDC operate every day. You will work closely with operational teams to observe processes on the floor, analyze data, and identify practical improvement opportunities that make a real difference in productivity, quality and ergonomics. In this role, you will translate logistics and Lean concepts into concrete operational improvements, procedures, and supporting tools. You will focus on optimizing processes and physical workflows within the DC environment, with particular attention to efficiency, automation opportunities, and continuous improvement. You will act as a connector between operational teams and senior management, helping turn ideas into action. You report directly to the EMEA Senior Manager Innovation & Engineering and will be based on site in the EDC in Sint Niklaas. HOW DO YOU MAKE THE DIFFERENCE What will you do: Identify optimization and improvement opportunities within the Distribution Center by observing processes and analyzing performance. Analyze operational data, workflows, and practices to understand differences and inefficiencies and define clear improvements actions. Initiate and support improvement projects focused on Lean Management, mechanization, automation, and workplace ergonomics. Design and optimize warehouse layouts, workstations, and operational flows to improve productivity, safety, and service. Collaborate closely with local DC teams and the wider EMEA network, acting as a link between operations and management How will you do this: Apply Lean Management techniques such as Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen, and benchmarking to identify and drive improvements. Translate improvement ideas into practical, easy-to-implement concepts, procedures, and operational solutions. Support and manage improvement initiatives from idea to implementation, including basic business cases, ROI considerations, and post-implementation evaluation. Communicate clearly with stakeholders at different levels, creating understanding and buy-in for change initiatives. Contribute to building a continuous improvement mindset by sharing best practices and supporting Lean ways of working. What success looks like: More efficient and well-structured DC processes that support better service performance. Improved warehouse layouts and workstations that enhance productivity and ergonomics. Practical improvements that are sustainable and aligned with DC needs and best practices. Strong collaboration between operational teams and management. SKILLS FOR SUCCESS Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, preferably in logistics, engineering, or business-related fields. Fluency in English and Dutch, both written and spoken. Professional experience, ideally in operations, logistics, supply chain, or continuous improvement environments. A strong analytical mindset with curiosity to understand how processes work and how they can be improved. Interest in Lean principles and continuous improvement (hands-on experience is a plus). Comfort working with basic operational tools and systems (e.g. Excel, PowerPoint, exposure to WMS or ERP environments is an advantage). Ability to communicate clearly with different stakeholders and translate observations into concrete actions. A proactive, hands-on attitude, with the ability to work autonomously in a dynamic operational environment. ??
