Network Architect/Researcher for AI and HPC
What you will do
Compute System Architecture (CSA) is a center of excellence at imec, specializing in HW-SW-Technology co-design for future compute systems.
As a network architect/researcher in CSA at imec, you will play a key role in designing future machine-scale networks, exploring emerging architectural and technological innovations such as photonics/optical interconnects and wireless technologies. Your responsibilities include working with large-scale network models, customizing them as needed, designing and conducting experiments to advance research, and collaborating closely with stakeholders inside and outside CSA to integrate workload models and technological aspects.

Who you are
* Master’s or Doctoral degree in Computer Science or Electrical/Computer Engineering.
* 6+ years (or 4+ post-PhD) of relevant experience. If you have slightly less experience but strong qualifications, we encourage you to apply.
* Expertise in large-scale network design, including topology, routing, congestion control, communication protocols, and resilience; experience in traffic modeling and network characterization.
* Experience with network modeling tools such as NS3, OMNET++, SST, Merlin, etc.
* Familiarity with networks-on-chip is a plus.
* (Optional) Knowledge of recent industry initiatives like Ultra-ethernet, CXL, UALink.
* Good software/hardware engineering practices, including quality assurance, version control, CI, and unit testing.
* Hands-on approach and ability to mentor junior colleagues, fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration, and excellence.
