In the context of the expertise network Artistic Practices, to be appointed within the team Audiovisual Concepts (Brussel) LUCA is looking for a Praktijklector Non-Fiction Directing. The proposed starting date is September 1st 2026. Key responsibilities Your assignment includes teaching tasks within LUCA Audiovisual Arts & Media. These are mainly situated within the Film, TV, Video programme (Vorst campus, Narafi). Within the educational setting, you provide practice-oriented courses focusing on non-fiction, reporting, and documentary television practice. You guide students through the entire production process: from research and concept development to filming, directing, and editing. The focus is on developing strong technical, storytelling, and production skills and applying them in realistic field situations and collaborations with external partners. You introduce current professional workflows, such as working in small teams or as a one-person crew, and guide students in making content choices within various non-fiction formats (reporting, documentary, human interest). The assignment is broader than teaching, supervising and evaluating students. Together with colleagues, you develop teaching and learning activities, tailored to the student audience and within the context of the curriculum and the profile of the program. You also actively contribute to the quality of the program, and you are an ambassador for LUCA with regard to prospective students and alumni. Within the practice-oriented research component (10%), you will contribute to the development of a research project that aligns with educational practice and the domain of non-fiction audiovisual production (for example, regarding working methods, new production models, or professional practices in the field). Scientific, social and internal services are also part of the mission, as well as professionalization and international networking. Profile You have demonstrable professional experience in non-fiction television, reporting or documentary. You possess practical expertise in camerawork, editing, and research. You have a well‑developed ethical compass and are familiar with the deontological principles that apply in journalistic and documentary contexts. You are eager to teach theoretical subjects. You have experience guiding and coaching creative production processes. You have insight into current field practices and production contexts, and you closely monitor trends and developments in the landscape. You adopt an inquisitive attitude and are interested in developing practice-oriented research. You possess strong conceptual and visual creativity, aimed at developing compelling non-fiction stories. You hold a bachelor’s degree (at minimum). You enjoy working effectively in a team and believe in the power of collaboration and open communication. You possess social and educational skills, are collegial and communicative, and continue to develop yourself. You act respectfully and with integrity, in line with LUCA’s code of conduct. You contribute to an inclusive work and study environment, you are open to different opinions, and value diversity between individuals and groups as an asset.
