Freelance .NET Core & AS400 Developer (Brussels) – 12 Month Contract Project Overview: An established client in the finance sector is undertaking a critical modernization project to migrate their legacy AS400 database and RPG applications to a modern technology stack. The project involves transitioning from AS400 to .NET Core, MS SQL, and Azure, with a key focus on converting existing functionality into scalable web services. Role & Responsibilities: Develop and maintain .NET Core applications to replace legacy AS400 RPG code. Migrate and refactor database components from AS400 to MS SQL Server hosted on Azure. Build, test, and deploy web services to ensure smooth integration of migrated components. Collaborate closely with the onsite team during scheduled days in Brussels/Vilvoorde (Tuesdays and Thursdays). Ensure high-quality, autonomous delivery aligned with project timelines and business requirements. Support knowledge transfer and documentation to facilitate long-term maintenance. Requirements: Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience with .NET Core development. At least 6 months direct experience working with AS400 and RPG systems, with ability to understand and translate legacy code. Strong skills in database migration, particularly from AS400 to MS SQL and Azure environments. Fluent in English; Dutch and/or French language skills are a bonus. Self-motivated and capable of working independently without extensive supervision. Comfortable working within a dynamic project where timelines are accelerating following recent board reviews. Bonus / Nice to Have: Experience with cloud platforms, particularly Microsoft Azure. Prior exposure to web services and API development. Excellent communication skills to engage with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
