Digital Hardware FPGA Engineer
Overview
Thales Belgium Hardware Products Department – Competence Center – is responsible for R&D activities related to HF band radios (1.5 to 30 MHz), aeronautical and tactical vehicle calculators, and communication devices. The Digital Hardware Engineer designs and develops digital circuits in cryptography, radio, power control and signal processing.
Responsibilities
* Design and develop digital products from concept to production, analyzing customer specifications, subsystem and detailed design.
* Define PCB schematics, guide layout engineers, validate prototypes, integrate and qualify designs, and follow up through production.
* Collaborate closely with mechanics, layout, component, embedded software and FPGA design engineers.
* Develop skills in HF/RF product design.
* Work within a multidisciplinary engineering team to evolve and broaden competence.
* Ensure work meets international standards and in-house quality procedures (ISO and Civil Aviation standards).
Qualifications
* Master’s Degree in electronics‑telecommunication or equivalent.
* Experience with board design, analog and digital techniques, FPGA, and embedded software.
* Analytical mindset to translate system‑level requirements into component specifications.
* Assess customer needs and determine requirements, capacity and cost for product development.
* Design, develop, analyze and test electrical products to customer specifications.
* Design digital hardware usable with analog, digital or mixed‑signal technology.
* Lead new product development tasks: breadboarding, circuit simulation, test procedure documentation and lab guidance.
* Ensure designs comply with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
* Create analog and digital circuits while ensuring signal integrity and optimal performance.
* Knowledge of boundary scan testing, reliability analysis (MTBF, MTTF, worst‑case, part stress, failure‑mode, etc.) and signal integrity is an advantage.
* Strong problem‑solving, debugging and failure‑analysis skills, with a solid engineering foundation.
* Hands‑on laboratory experience with oscilloscope, network analyzer, spectrum analyzer and other test equipment.
* Strong communication skills, able to convey technical concepts verbally and in writing across all management levels.
* Team‑work, international collaboration, and flexibility across project stages.
* Good knowledge of English required; fluency in French and/or Dutch preferred.
