General Information/Job Summary
The Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Specialist is responsible for the overseeing daily work activities. The HSE Specialist promotes enhanced safety compliance and performance. The Specialist also provides safety training by offering coaching, mentoring and other required training to designated personnel, as required. The Specialist is also responsible for performing daily, weekly, quarterly, and annual inspections on various tools, equipment, and other facility items, in compliance with company policies and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities/Competencies
1. Ensure implementation of all company policies and procedures, as well as other work processes.
2. Monitor compliance of Company, client and governmental safety rules and regulations.
3. Conduct frequent inspections, focusing on unsafe conditions and unsafe work behavior. Ensure that corrective actions are documented and delegated to the correct person or team for immediate resolution.
4. Participate in Facility New Employee Orientations.
5. Maintain HSE records in compliance with all recordkeeping standards.
6. Facilitate or coordinate safety training as necessary. Forward all completed training documentation to the training center.
7. Conduct frequent facility hazard inspections and ensure the appropriate hazard control technique has been implemented for all machines, equipment, vehicles and tools.
8. Ensure that Incident Reports are completed and submitted timely.
9. Investigate all incidents, including first aids and near misses and participate in formal Root Cause Analysis investigations, as required. Ensure that witness statements are completed by the injured employee, other employees involved in the incident and by any associated witnesses.
10. Transport injured employees to a medical facility when required. Obtain medical authorization forms, reports, releases and other related documentation from the clinic and submit to Corporate HSE Management. Keep Corporate HSE Management informed of aftercare results, and of follow-up visits when applicable.
11. Coordinate Facility Emergency Action Plan procedures.
12. Verify that employees are issued and use the appropriate personal protective equipment for potential and existing hazards.
13. Performs regular jobsite inspections of all crews in order to identify any unsafe work practices and unsafe conditions, documenting the visits on observation forms and forwarding findings to various administrative and management personnel.
14. Ensures that proper fire extinguishers and first aid supplies are maintained.
Requirements
15. Minimum of 3 to 5 years’ safety experience
16. Position offers competitive hourly rate along with overtime.
17. Any certifications and training as a safety professional a plus; OSHA Out-Reach Trainer preferred.
18. Must be familiar with OSHA 29 CFR 1910 and 1926.
19. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
20. Excellent presentation and Interpersonal skills (Written and oral).
Physical Requirements
21. Prolonged periods sitting / standing at a desk and working on a computer.
22. Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
23. Ability to walk the property and laydown yards.
24. Ability to carry up to 50 pounds.
