At Engineering & Property Services (E&PS) we take care of all J&J buildings in Belgium providing services from Real Estate, Engineering & Strategic Project Delivery to Facilities Management. The Construction Manager is accountable for the execution of assigned projects on the Geel site, responsible for the construction management of manufacturing facilities, systems, buildings, and equipment projects. Your role will include ensuring safety and quality during the construction and commissioning phases while overseeing construction management companies and aligning operations with JnJ’s high standards. You will supervise the external Construction Management teams concerning resource management for the project portfolio. The construction Manager will join the E&PS Project delivery team composed of 10 project Managers and will report to the E&PS Project Director Belgium. The best candidate for this role has specific expertise in Project construction management in medium sized projects in Pharm or chemical industry. They have good communication skills and knowledge of Industry building standards. You are eager to learn continuously and like to work with many colleagues and partners across other functional areas who are involved in the projects. Making good relationships and aligning construction team members is something that gives you energy. Key responsibilities * Project Management: Oversee all aspects of construction projects during construction phase, ensuring adherence to defined deadlines and managing the construction budget. * Safety and Quality Assurance: Ensure compliance with safety regulations and quality standards throughout construction and commissioning phases. Monitor all onsite and offsite constructions. * Team Leadership: Lead the MSA team in resourcing management for the project portfolio, ensuring clear communication and collaboration among team members. * Scheduling: Determine the scheduling of different phases of a project and organize campus shut-downs of facility-related projects within E&PS. * Documentation Management: Manage the flow of necessary documents during construction, regulating the transfer of as-built files, qualification documents, and security documents. * Risk Management: Plan ahead to prevent problems by resolving emerging issues related to resourcing, logistics, and traffic, ensuring all construction activities are coordinated with the business (customer, site direction, prevention). * Daily Oversight: Conduct day-to-day reviews of work progress, focusing on safety, quality, and technical expertise as primary factors. * Compliance Monitoring: Ensure project compliance with EH&S regulations, permits, procedures, and policies to the external CM partners. Represent the project manager during the construction phase. * Collaboration: Assist in the PDP light process, focusing on constructability and selecting the right contractors for the project. * Core Team Member: Be an integral part of the FPX approach within engineering projects, enhancing collaborative efforts to drive project success. Education * Bachelor’s degree in Civil or equivalent through experience * Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent * Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint required Preferred * Prior experience with capital project execution in the Chemical or Pharm industry * Strong technical skills in infrastructure, utilities, and facilities engineering. * Familiarity with J&J PM approaches (FPX & IDEA Project Delivery Process) Experience, Skills & Knowledge Required: * Minimum of 10 years of experience in construction management, specifically in supervising CM companies and managing mid-scale projects. * Prior experience with capital projects in the industry * Knowledge of relevant rules and regulations, as well as safety permits and standards (GxP, Limosa, Belgian legislation). * Process-oriented, process knowledgeable * Ability to lead and empower teams and partners * Good listening and problem-solving skills when handling potential conflicts within partners when implementing global standards and guidelines. Understanding sophisticated technical/regulatory issues impacting products. * Ability to develop and maintain collaborative partnerships at all levels within the organization, internally (FM/MAM/RE) and with partners (CM/ E&D/ Operations) * Knowledge of Project Controls in cost and schedule development, financial assessments and managing of budget and schedule during construction * Manufacturing experience in FDA or other regulated environments from design through startup is an advantage. * Experience on contracting and negotiation Other Language Requirements: Fluency in English and Dutch languages Travel Requirements: This position will require up to 5% domestic travel.
