VIB Technologies constitutes the centralized scientific research infrastructure of the institute and allows scientists access to high-end and innovative technologies. VIB Technologies comprises multiple state-of-the-art core facilities, each with a specific technology focus and embedded within the VIB centers in Ghent, Leuven, Antwerp or Brussels. The role of these core facilities is to support the 1900 researchers at VIB with their expertise. Within VIB Technologies we have over 120 staff members.
VIB Nucleomics Core provides access to cutting-edge technologies for next generation sequencing. We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated lab colleague to join our divers and dynamic team of lab technicians and bioinformaticians.
Your Role
You independently execute routine workflows, such as DNA/RNA quality control, library preparation procedures, setting up sequencing runs on our NGS instruments etc.
Besides manual execution of some laboratory procedures, you will also operate robotic devices, such as automated liquid dispensers, robotic arms…
You summarize analyses and interpret data in order to draw conclusions from it
You will follow general lab policies, SOP's and other applicable guidelines
You improve techniques/workflows by yourself in consultation with the team
You will collaborate closely with colleagues to ensure smooth project execution and high-quality results
You will prepare and write technical reports to record data and/or results
You stay up-to-date with emerging technologies in next gen sequencing, genomics, and transcriptomics
On the longer term, together with other lab technicians from our team, you provide support in method development
Profile
You possess at the minimum a degree in Biotechnological, Biomedical or Biological Sciences (Bachelor/Engineer) or equivalent by training/experience
Both experienced and junior candidates will be considered
Practical knowledge of general molecular biology and basis wet-lab techniques
Experience with DNA/RNA quality control and next generation sequencing library preparation workflows and/or laboratory automation is a strong plus, but not needed
You have well-developed analytical skills and must be meticulous, proactive, and results-oriented with an eye for detail
Ability to work independently in an organized and structured way is required
You have a flexible and service-oriented mindset, being able to interact efficiently with other members of the team and with customers
You have a positive attitude, and you are motivated and eager to expand your skills in a fast-evolving environment
Comfortable working in an international setting: fluent in English
Good knowledge of Microsoft office
You are enthusiastic to be part of a dynamic team consisting of lab technicians and bioinformaticians
