Role Overview
Seeking an Automation Engineer to support its European Distribution Centre hub in Courcelles, Belgium. This onsite role is focused on maintaining, improving, and expanding automation capabilities across a highly automated medical device distribution environment.
The successful candidate will play a key part in keeping operations running smoothly by supporting planned maintenance, upgrades, and deployments, while also contributing to automation projects from design through go-live and operational stabilization.
Key Responsibilities
* Execute planned maintenance, upgrades, and deployment activities during designated weekends to avoid disruption to day-to-day operations.
* Support automation work streams for distribution center projects from design through go-live and stabilization.
* Manage and resolve technical escalations related to Warehouse Control Systems (WCS), working closely with integrators and vendors.
* Help introduce and integrate advanced technologies such as AI/ML-driven automation, AMR/AGV fleet systems, machine vision, and IoT architectures.
* Ensure compliance with cybersecurity, data privacy, safety, and validation requirements across automation projects.
* Partner with internal technology teams to ensure WCS requirements are included in infrastructure, security, and digital strategy plans.
* Stay informed on emerging trends and best practices in Industry 4.0 and smart manufacturing.
Key Requirements
* Minimum 4 years of experience in automation engineering, robotics, or industrial digitalization.
* Strong understanding of automation and emerging technologies, including:
* AI / Machine Learning
* AMR / AGV systems
* Vision systems
* IoT sensors and edge computing
* 3D printing
* Experience with PLC, HMI, SCADA, OEE, and Warehouse Control Systems.
* Knowledge of Computer System Validation (CSV), SDLC documentation, and testing procedures.
* Experience with IQ/OQ/PQ validation plans, engineering change control, protocol development, execution, and reporting.
* Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or C++ is a plus.
* Experience with data analytics tools and techniques for manufacturing or operational datasets.
* Strong communication and collaboration skills for working in cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications
* Master’s degree in Engineering, IT, Automation, or a related field.
* Experience in highly automated manufacturing or distribution environments, ideally within GMP or regulated settings.
* Familiarity with Rockwell PLCs, industrial robotics, vision systems, OEE tools, and industrial data centers.
* Six Sigma Green Belt or equivalent.
Language Requirements
* French: required.
* English: required.
* Dutch: a plus.
Work Arrangement
* Onsite presence is required in Courcelles, Belgium.
* Remote work up to 40% may be possible depending on business needs.
