YOUR TASKS
We are recruiting an engineer specializing in machine learning and data processing for auditory signal processing as part of an innovation project (EIC and IOF project CoNNear). The project aims to advance recent scientific developments in precision hearing diagnostics and improved hearing technologies to a higher Technology Readiness Level (TRL).
Your role will be twofold: on the one hand, you will evaluate and optimize machine learning-based audio algorithms for real-time applications. This involves refining and testing software implementations that improve sound perception and speech intelligibility for older or hearing-impaired listeners. On the other hand, you will use a data-driven approach (machine learning, classification, signal processing) to extract key insights from a large clinical dataset and optimize data analysis processes. Based on these analyses, you will be able to develop new algorithms and help enhance the patient experience in diagnostics and treatment.
For these tasks, you will work closely with other members of the EarDiTech team (including audio and EEG engineers, audiologists, and business developers). You have an eye for commercialization and can communicate your developments effectively with subcontractors, investors, and non-experts.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
* You hold a Master’s degree in Engineering Sciences (biomedical, computer science, information technology, electrical engineering, acoustics).
* You have experience with signal processing and machine learning, preferably with a background in audio, augmented hearing, or EEG.
* You have programming skills in signal processing (Python, MATLAB) and experience with machine learning frameworks and programming (Keras, PyTorch).
* You are a natural when it comes to data-driven analysis (classification, optimization, data mining of large datasets).
* You can communicate your research results to various audiences (technical reports, project documentation, end users) and work well in a team.
* Strong written and spoken English skills are required, as demonstrated by previously written technical reports.
WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU
* We offer you a contract of definite duration for the period of 1 year.
* Your contract will start on 1/09/2025 at the earliest.
* All Ghent University staff members enjoy a number of benefits, such as a wide range of training and education opportunities, 36 days of holiday leave (on an annual basis for a full-time job) supplemented by annual fixed bridge days, bicycle allowance and eco vouchers.
