About Alliance2015

Alliance2015 is a strategic network of seven European NGOs engaged in collaborative humanitarian and development work, particularly in fragile and conflict-affected contexts (FCAS), with over 1500 local and national partners. We collaborate in diverse ways to achieve greater scale and quality of impact when it makes sense. Considering the escalating climate crisis and its disproportionate impact on vulnerable populations, the Alliance aims to strengthen its collective climate resilience programming and significantly increase access to climate funding and finance—particularly for adaptation efforts at the community level.

Role Title: Climate Finance Business Developer & Donor Engagement Lead

Purpose of the Role

This is a senior-level business development consultancy which aims to drive concrete fundraising/access to finance efforts by developing 2–3 fundable multi-year climate resilience joint propositions and securing donor interest and investment - targeting non-institutional EU-based donors and philanthropies in a target range of € 25-200m per individual proposition. The consultant will co-develop compelling pitches, engage high-potential funders, and ensure Alliance2015 has a credible presence in relevant funding and advocacy spaces. This is a hands-on, product- and pitch-oriented business development role - not a strategy or proposal-writing assignment. The consultant will work closely with Alliance2015 members’ climate and funding experts to co-develop strategic products, unlock finance opportunities, and facilitate high-level donor relationships.

Key Responsibilities

* Consolidate existing mapping of capacities, member strategies, and thematic niches to support joint positioning.

* Identify specific niches and complementarities among Alliance2015 members, technically and geographically, highlighting gaps that could be addressed through strategic partnerships.

* In coordination with members’ climate experts (‘the Climate Funding Scoping Team’), define 2–3 unique value propositions that leverage the joint capabilities of A2015 members for donor pitches.

* Co-develop (with the Climate Scoping Team) 2–3 flagship programme concepts and a targeted engagement plan tailored to identified high-potential donors and their countries/regions of interest mapped against countries/regions where the members have high quality and ambition climate resilience work.

* Map and prioritize top 10 high-potential non-institutional climate funders (EU-based philanthropies, foundations, impact funds); agree 5 of them for which to develop engagement roadmaps and initiate meaningful contact within the first 6 months.

* Develop and deliver donor-facing materials (e.g., pitch decks, capacity briefs, 2-page concept notes) tailored to those top 5 identified donors within the first 6 months.

* Arrange and hold meetings with donors and senior Alliance2015 representatives (Director, Climate Scoping Team members etc.) to present joint programming, joint projects concepts, or pitch.

* Lead efforts to position Alliance2015 at strategic climate finance and resilience events, ensuring effective presence in at least two high-level convenings.

* Work closely with Alliance2015’s Hub in Brussels, the Climate Funding Scoping Team and the Funding and Partnership Group (FPG) to ensure alignment and integration across network efforts.

* Transparently share upcoming work planning and actions across the membership with the support of the Hub.

* Represent the interests of all members in a balanced and fair way.

Qualifications and Profile

* Proven track record in securing large-scale funding (€ 25-200m range in individual multi-year grants/programmes) in the climate funding and finance space, including with institutional and private donors and investors.

* Experience in climate resilience/adaptation related business development strategy and donor engagement, especially in the European market. Experience in other markets is an asset.

* Proven deep understanding of INGO and/or SDG-driven climate resilience programming, ideally in FCAS.

* Ability to work collaboratively within a network, balancing multiple stakeholder inputs and promoting shared ownership.

* Strong strategic communication and representation skills.

* Knowledge and experience of one or more Alliance2015 members would be a desirable asset.

Timeframe and Contracting Terms

* Contract Duration: This is a 6-month consultancy, with possibility of extension based on performance to agreed targets up to 12 months. Members have set aside a dedicated budget to cover the consultancy and associated expenses such as travel.

* Reporting Line: Reports to the Director at Alliance2015 Brussels hub and is co-managed by the Operations Group co-chairs as the Alliance is a membership network; works in close collaboration with Alliance2015 members’ climate experts, and Fundraising and Partnership Group, which interfaces with the climate finance resource persons of each member. Coordination linkages are the responsibility of the Brussels hub.

* Location: Consultant must be based in a location allowing for ease of travel to Brussels, locations where donors/donor investors events are, or to countries where Alliance members have their headquarters. The office of reference for the consultant is the Alliance2015 office in Brussels.

* Start Date: immediate/at or before September 2025

Working Approach

The consultant will work with members to co-develop products, unlock funding, and enhance Alliance2015's positioning. Active participation and timely inputs from member organisations are essential for success.
