Sophisticated Mechanical Engineer
* We are seeking a highly skilled mechanical engineer with expertise in designing complex space systems to contribute to our lunar rover development team.
Key Responsibilities
* The successful candidate will be responsible for the mechanical engineering of the lunar rover platform, encompassing locomotion, chassis, and mechanical interfaces.
* They will perform end-to-end CAD design, optimize models, and prepare drawings for manufacturing.
* Collaboration with the Project Manager, System Engineer, and Team Members is essential to ensure alignment with project requirements.
* Effective coordination with parts suppliers and manufacturing workshops is required to support component sourcing and production.
* The candidate will oversee the Manufacturing, Assembly, Integration, and Testing (MAIT) of the rover's mechanical elements within our laboratory.
* Maintenance of all necessary technical documentation is also expected.
Required Skills and Qualifications
* A Master's degree in mechanical engineering or higher is mandatory.
* The ideal candidate should possess at least 4 years of professional experience in engineering space systems or equipment.
* High proficiency with CAD tools is required.
* A good understanding of space system engineering standards (ECSS, other agency standards) is essential.
* Familiarity with materials and tolerancing in space applications context is beneficial.
* Knowledge of the space qualification process and PA implications is desirable.
* Hands-on experience in the MAIT of space systems or components under workshop conditions is an asset.
* The ability to cope with tight schedules and deadlines is crucial.
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are necessary for effective collaboration at the team level and with customers and suppliers.
Desirable Attributes
* Experience with planetary rover systems/components at high TRL would be beneficial.
* Engineering experience with space mechanisms at high TRL could be advantageous.
* Background in composites in space systems: honeycomb sandwich panels, carbon fiber elements, etc. could be useful.
