Internship Position
The project AIDEFSPACE is a pioneering initiative focused on using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to safeguard telecommunications and satellite positioning systems from the interference of space weather events. With a duration spanning 4 years, this project represents a unique opportunity to make a significant impact in the field of space technology.
The successful Intern will primarily focus on preparing datasets for training machine learning models and integrating these models into applications tailored to address the challenges posed by space weather. The Intern will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and effectiveness of our defence mechanisms against space weather interference.
The successful candidate will mainly report to the Control & Data Centres (CDC) Team Lead.
* Location: Sint-Stevens-Woluwe (Brussels Area)
* Duration: 3 months at a minimum
* Start date: As of June 2024
Tasks and Responsibilities
* Collaborate with our team to gather and pre-process data necessary for training AI models
* Fine-tune machine learning algorithms for ionosphere modelling and space weather prediction
* Integrate trained models into applications designed to analyse and mitigate the impact of space weather on telecommunications and satellite systems
* Assist in deploying and testing these applications in real-world scenarios.
Skills and Experience
* Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
* Proficiency in:
o Python
o Data pre-processing and manipulation
* Knowledge of:
o Machine learning frameworks (e.g.TensorFlow, PyTorch)
o Data visualization tools
* Strong problem-solving skills and a passion for space technology and its application
* Good written and spoken English.
