Mantis Robotics is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead and grow our global engineering organization. This is a unique opportunity to combine executive leadership with hands‑on technical impact at an early‑stage company poised to transform an entire industry. This role is based at our R&D center in Belgium (Mantis Robotics BV), but has a global scope.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
* Collaborate within a cross‑functional engineering team including hardware engineers and software developers to integrate firmware for the communication between the modules.
* Develop and execute test plans for firmware communication validation to ensure compliance with safety requirements under standard operating conditions and all corner cases.
* Create documentation including design specifications, API documentation, and user manuals for our software developers.
* Support integration and test, evaluate test results, investigate discrepancies, provide technical assessment of anomalies, and drive issues to resolution.
QUALIFICATIONS
* Master’s or PhD degree in a related engineering field, including but not limited to electrical engineering, computer science, or systems engineering.
* 3+ years of experience in systems design, architecture, integration, or related field.
* Understanding of hardware and software development and validation processes.
* Proficient using the C language for application development and communication protocols.
* Experienced in integrating at least one type of fieldbus protocol.
* Experienced in EtherCAT development on the Slave‑side.
* Basic knowledge of industrial communication networks standards: IEC 61158/IEC 61784.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
* Must be authorized to work in Belgium (EU citizens, BE permanent residents, etc).
PREFERRED
* Experienced in EtherCAT development on the Master‑side.
* Experienced in FSoE development on Master‑ and Slave‑side.
* Specific knowledge of industrial communication networks standards: IEC 61784-3-3 (PROFIsafe) & 61784-3-12 (EtherCAT).
DESIRED
* Experienced in TI C2000 series development.
* Experienced in Linux platform development.
* Hardware knowledge of common EtherCAT slave controller ICs, e.g. ET1100, LAN9252, etc.
