Research Professor in Landscape and Urbanism (BOFZAP)
KU Leuven, a historic and research‑intensive university founded in 1425, has a vacancy for a full‑time research professor in landscape architecture, urbanism and design. The successful candidate will develop an international, competitive research programme, supervise graduate students, lead a research group and contribute to teaching at the Faculty of Engineering Science and the Faculty of Architecture.
Responsibilities
* Contribute to the research of the Department of Architecture within the Urban Design, Urbanism, Landscape and Planning (UULP) section.
* Develop a top‑level agenda of fundamental and applied research on topics such as ecosystem dynamics, nature‑based solutions, and sustainability.
* Strengthen existing research lines and bring new expertise through close collaboration with UULP collaborators.
* Publish in high‑impact journals (e.g. Journal of Landscape Architecture, Nature Sustainability, Landscape and Urban Planning, among others) and participate in professional organizations such as IFLA and ECLAS.
* Lead and supervise master, PhD and postdoctoral researchers at an international level.
* Secure competitive research funding from national and international agencies.
* Establish and maintain national and international partnerships related to the research programme.
* Promote excellence in research and contribute to the international reputation of the Department and KU Leuven.
* Develop and deliver teaching in line with KU Leuven’s research‑based education strategy.
Teaching
The candidate will develop and teach courses across bachelor, master, and advanced master levels, supporting KU Leuven’s vision of activating and research‑based education.
Service
Service to the university, faculty and research community is expected but specific duties are determined by the department.
Requirements
* A strong research profile with an excellent record of integrity and publications in top journals.
* International research experience and demonstrable teaching competence (a plus).
* Organizational and cooperative attitude with leadership skills within a university context.
* Excellent spoken and written English; Dutch language training will be provided if needed.

* Full‑time employment within a dynamic and multidisciplinary research environment.
* Appointment on senior academic staff (assistant, associate, or full professor) based on qualifications and experience.
* Position located in Leuven, close to Brussels and major European cities.
* Support for foreign professors and families, including immigration, housing, childcare, and Dutch language coaching.
* Starting grant of €110,000 to support early research activities, subject to eligibility criteria.
