Job Description
1. Full STR profiling of crime scene, reference, cold case and other DNA samples as required across a range of routine and specialist techniques and technologies in accordance with good lab practice (GLP) and quality systems;
2. Working as a super user and technical specialist for automated DNA processing line and LIMS;
3. Completing analysis of DNA profiles using GeneMapper IDX software or Genoproof;
4. End to end sample management, maintenance of chain of custody;
5. General housekeeping: laboratory cleaning, maintenance of equipment and monitoring stock levels;
6. Responsible for maintaining a first time right approach to work, reporting any non-conformances or near misses to the local quality systems and implementing process improvements;
7. Proactive approach to Continuous Improvement (CI) within all aspects of the role; striving to improve output and efficiency of both scientific and support tasks;
8. Communicate effectively to team members and team leads to ensure a smooth flow of work through the laboratory process;
9. Work in accordance with Eurofins values of customer focus, competence and team spirit, quality and integrity.
10. Location: 80% in Bruges (BE) and 20% in Maastricht (NL)
Qualifications
11. Qualification in technical/life sciences;
12. Experience of working in a high throughput, highly regulated environment;
13. Experience of conducting DNA analysis, including extraction, quantification, PCR and CE in an ISO-17025 accredited laboratory;
14. Knowledge of DNA profiling to include autosomal DNA testing (eg NGM SElect/NGM DEtect/GlobalFiler), Y-Chromosome testing, Mitochondrial DNA testing, Single Nucleotide Polymorphism’s (SNP’s) and future technologies including interpretation software packages;
15. Comprehensive understanding of the role of forensic services providers within the criminal justice system;
16. Understanding of Quality Control and Quality Management systems.
17. Strong analytical skills;
18. A proactive attitude and hands-on mentality;
19. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, including ability to transfer knowledge to a wide audience.
20. Good knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
21. Very good knowledge of Dutch and English is mandatory
