DHL Legal Services offers all business partners worldwide solution-oriented legal advice. We provide comprehensive support in contracts, negotiations, and processes with customers and suppliers as well as in general litigation and commercial law matters.

In a matrix organization, Legal Services is organized on the one hand according to regions and on the other hand according to global cross-sectional topics.

Job Purpose:

The Global Aviation Legal Teamprovides efficient legal support to all of DHL’s worldwide airline operations, and those companies that provide or procure air transportation for the DHL network.

The individual will draft, review and negotiate contracts, provide legal advice, identify and mitigate legal risk and protect DHL's legal and business interests in line with business needs, international aviation industry standards, applicable laws and regulations.

Your tasks:

The workload will encompass all aspects of aviation law insofar as it affects DHL’s aviation network operations. The Team seeks to retain all legal work in-house wherever possible, so the candidate must be comfortable with the quality of his/her own advice. Areas of activity conventionally encompass the negotiation and drafting of arrangements for and advice in relation to:

* the acquisition and disposal of new and used aircraft, engines and other major asset items;
* aircraft and asset operating/dry leases, sub-leases, wet leases, charters, and block space arrangements etc.;
* the establishment of air networks through joint ventures, “ACMI” commitments, code share relationships and alterative innovative structures;
* aircraft conversion arrangements, including facilitating the introduction of new aircraft types to the market;
* maintenance and all other technical support agreements for engine, aircraft and related equipment;
* setting up new airline operations and supporting operating agreements;
* facilitating the leasing of DHL aircraft assets to DHL’s preferred airline suppliers;
* ground handling, pilot secondment and fuel supply agreements, whether bespoke or based on industry accepted documentation; and
* supporting the Group’s aviation capacity sales teams (Sales Agency Agreements, Block Space and Interline relationships).

The individual will also advise upon, or be the principal point of contact for queries relating to, risk and insurance, taxation, customs and finance related queries, and will coordinate the analysis and response to these disciplines in the context of the transactions the individual will be required to manage.

The role will also demand that the individual assist auditors, manage external advisers where necessary, and frequently deal with the organisations business suppliers and customers, whilst anticipating future industry developments in order to identify risks and opportunities. The individual will also deliver training on legal matters to business or other colleagues.

Your profile:

* a qualified lawyer with at least 4 years post-qualification experience, ideally from a common law jurisdiction with an extensive international workload and aviation law background and proven expertise in executing complex projects.
* Strong knowledge of aviation law, contract law, and general commercial law, with expertise in English law or common law systems
* Business acumen and a genuine interest in understanding DHL’s business needs to provide practical, business-focused legal advice
* Ability to work effectively with multicultural stakeholders given the global nature of DHL’s business and the aviation industry
* Proficiency in PowerPoint and basic presentation skills
* Strategic, commercial, and pragmatic legal mindset with a solutions-oriented approach
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills to engage effectively with internal business partners
* Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills; a confident team player who can influence and collaborate across functions
* Bachelor’s degree in Law, Master’s degree in Law or equivalent legal qualification, preferably in a common law jurisdiction
