About the Role
The Regional Director, Business Development drives growth, profitability, and market expansion for TEL's Fleet Leasing division within an assigned region. Leads TEL’s commercial truck and trailer leasing portfolio with an annual growth target of 15% or more. Manages the Business Development team to elevate sales performance, expand market presence, and strengthen customer relationships. Involves direct prospecting, customer acquisition, and portfolio management in Class 8 tractors and trailers.
What You’ll Do
Strategic Leadership & Portfolio Growth: drive portfolio growth and revenue for TEL in all areas of responsibility with >15% annual lease portfolio profitability increase; promote Salesforce adoption and integrate plans into the Fleet Leasing strategy; partner with Marketing and VP to develop messaging; manage expenses and margins while improving service effectiveness.
Team Development & Performance: build a high-performing sales team; recruit, onboard, and train Business Development staff; support sales efforts through ride-alongs and prospecting calls.
Business Development & Prospecting: identify and research potential customers; implement growth strategies; forecast sales targets; identify market opportunities; generate new business via cold outreach and networking; manage sales pipeline; work inbound leads.
Customer & Account Management: build and maintain strong customer relationships; manage existing accounts; negotiate lease terms; conduct regular visits; ensure timely contracts, pickup/delivery; renewals, terminations, and inventory management.
Market & Competitive Intelligence: monitor market and competitor activity; provide feedback on competitive intelligence; stay updated on industry trends.
Collaboration & Reporting: coordinate across departments; attend industry events; develop proposals with sales; work with credit and collections on underwriting, deal implementation, and collections.
Operational Excellence: maintain SOPs; stay knowledgeable on TEL products/services; adhere to SOPs and policies; continuously learn and implement process improvements.
Ideal Candidate Profile
A strategic, growth-focused sales leader with deep experience in fleet leasing or related transportation markets, capable of driving portfolio expansion and profitability across regions; excels at building high-performing teams, negotiating lease terms, and delivering from prospecting to contract delivery; data-driven and collaborative, leveraging market intelligence and cross-functional partnerships to exceed revenue and service expectations.
Qualifications
Extensive experience in equipment leasing sales.
In-depth knowledge of the transportation industry.
Strong understanding of financial statements and best practices in For Hire carrier and Private Fleet environments.
Proficient in financial concepts and TEL’s business model.
Proven leadership and sales management skills; ability to work collaboratively.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
High energy, positive attitude, and drive to achieve goals.
Effective at delegating tasks.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Business Management or related field, or equivalent experience.
Five+ years in B2B equipment leasing sales in transportation.
Ten+ years in equipment sales or leasing industries with progressive responsibility.
Two+ years as Business Development (Sales) Manager or Director in transportation.
