We are looking for an integrated photonics expert to join our team. We are focused on design of integrated photonics ICs (PICs) for a wide range of next generation technology developments and applications. You will employ imec's cutting edge photonic technologies for novel PICs and sub-systems such as communication, industrial sensors and biosensors, quantum photonics, lidar and many more.
Integrated Photonics Designer
What you will do
1. Design, model and layout photonic components and circuits.
2. Setup design of experiments and analyse test data.
3. Communicate your insights to internal cross-functional teams, technology developers and external partners.
4. Lead R&D projects and interact with external and internal customers.
5. Translate customer requirements into system concepts and PIC architectures.
6. Improve existing photonic platforms and contribute to new photonic concepts for emerging applications.
7. Continuously align with process, characterization, application and system experts.

Who you are
We are looking for a strong team player who is results-driven and strives for continuous improvement.
Good communication skills and excellent knowledge of English are required, since you will work in an international, multi-disciplinary and multicultural team, as well as interact with outside partners.
To qualify for this position, you have:
8. A PhD or equivalent in Photonics, Physics, Electrical Engineering or related field with at least 2 years of experience in silicon photonic design.
9. An in-depth knowledge of integrated photonics.
10. Extensive expertise in design, optimization and layout of Si photonic components and circuits.
11. Hands-on experience with photonic modelling software (. Lumerical).
12. Hands-on experience with layout tools (. Luceda Ipkiss, Cadence, L-edit). Experience with Ipkiss is a plus.
13. Good programming skills. Experience with Python is a strong plus.
14. Experience with experimental setups, characterization and packaging of PICs is an advantage.
15. Experience with passives in Silicon Nitride, Ge-on-Si or AlOx is a plus.
16. The ability to work according to agreed customer timelines and manage time efficiently according to the project schedules.
