Senior Network Specialist (Freelance) – 12 Months – Brussels
We are seeking a Senior Network Specialist for a high-impact, freelance assignment with our client in Brussels. This is a 12‑month, full‑time, on‑site opportunity to join a mission‑critical team at the heart of national security and digital infrastructure.
As a Senior Network Specialist, you will be instrumental in safeguarding and advancing the digital backbone of a vital public institution. Your work will ensure the integrity, security, and performance of complex network environments, directly supporting national interests and operational excellence.
What You’ll Be Doing
* Designing, implementing, and optimizing secure network architectures in a high‑stakes environment
* Managing and maintaining firewalls, VPNs, and switching infrastructure to ensure robust connectivity and data protection
* Monitoring, analyzing, and troubleshooting network performance using advanced tools such as Wireshark and Elastic Log/Kibana
* Driving Zero Trust and NAC (Network Access Control) strategies to elevate security posture
* Collaborating with cross‑functional teams to deliver seamless, secure, and scalable network solutions
* Coaching and mentoring team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence
* Ensuring all work is performed on‑site, in strict compliance with security protocols and public procurement regulations
What We’re Looking For
* Proven ownership mindset with a drive to solve complex problems and deliver measurable impact
* 10+ years of confirmed experience in network engineering, with recent hands‑on expertise
* Expertise in firewalls, switching, VPN, TCP/IP, Linux, Microsoft Windows, and Wireshark
* Confirmed experience with Zero Trust, VMWARE, and coaching/team leadership
* Familiarity with Agile methodologies and tools such as Docker, SIEM, Elastic Log/Kibana, and NAC (nice to have)
* Ability to operate with precision and reliability in high‑security, mission‑critical environments
* Strong communication skills and a collaborative, builder‑first approach
