Role Overview
You will support the investigation and resolution of surveillance anomalies related to ADS‑B (and Mode S) systems. This includes collecting and analysing data from multiple sources, identifying issues affecting avionics or surveillance performance, coordinating with stakeholders, and contributing to process improvements. Your work will help enhance surveillance data quality used across Europe’s air traffic network.
Key Responsibilities
ADS‑B Data Extraction & Analysis
* Retrieve, prepare, and analyse surveillance datasets from multiple systems.
* Combine analytical insights to identify root causes of anomalies.
* Build evidence dossiers using in‑house tools and methodology.
* Support the diagnosis of avionics‑related issues.
ADS‑B Anomaly Investigation
* Prioritise and follow up on detected anomalies.
* Maintain and update anomaly databases.
* Coordinate with airlines, manufacturers, and other stakeholders.
* Execute equipment tests and prepare high‑quality technical reports.
Process Improvement & Tooling
* Develop small automation scripts for data handling (Python, SQL).
* Maintain contact databases and improve investigation workflows.
* Contribute to harmonisation between ADS‑B and Mode S investigation processes.
Mode S Support
* Act as a backup for Mode S anomaly investigations.
* Support data extraction, analysis, and reporting tasks.
Education & Experience
* Holds a University degree in electrical engineering or equivalent (specialisation in aviation systems is a plus).
* Has 3+ years of experience in:
* aviation systems development,
* surveillance system development, or
* technical investigation in the aviation domain.
Technical Skills
* Strong ability to extract, clean, and analyse data.
* Proficiency with Excel, Power BI or Tableau.
* Prior experience in Python programming and basic SQL.
* Comfortable with databases and complex data analysis workflows.
* Excellent MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

* Start date: ASAP (ideally March-April)
* Duration: Until December 2028 (extension planned through 2030)
* Type: Freelance contract
* Location: Brussels, Belgium (50% on‑site)
