As part of this development, the current partner—strong in firmware and embedded systems—has identified a critical gap in power supply expertise and is seeking a validated backup supplier to ensure the stability and reliability of the platform. This is an opportunity for a technically capable Power Electronics Engineer to play a crucial role in the project's success and contribute to its ongoing development.
Role Overview:
This role involves external support in power electronics, specifically focusing on the AC/DC, DC/DC, and power supply controller integration layers. As a Power Electronics Engineer, your role will be essential to bridging the gap in the existing partnership, ensuring that key challenges in power supply stability, efficiency, thermal management, and compliance are successfully addressed.
You will work closely with the incumbent partner's firmware and embedded systems team to deliver a modular, scalable solution that aligns with the overall architecture and provides a seamless integration between the power supply and the controller/firmware layer.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide external expertise to support the integration of AC/DC, DC/DC, and other power supply components.
* Focus on PSU stability, efficiency, thermal management, and EMC/EMI compliance.
* Work with the firmware team to ensure smooth PSU-controller integration.
* Identify and mitigate likely failure points in power supply components, especially during the first 6-week validation phase.
* Collaborate with the incumbent partner to enhance hardware-software integration and bridge the existing expertise gap in power electronics.
* Ensure robust thermal stability, electromagnetic compliance, and long-term system reliability.
Technical Context:
* Project: Core electronics platform for a 10-year lifecycle
* Architecture: Power supply (AC/DC, DC/DC, control loops), Controller/firmware, Custom interfaces (including fiber / high-speed comms)
* Approach: Modular design with potential for component separation
Key Challenges & Entry Points:
* Gap in partner's strengths: Current partner excels in firmware and embedded systems but lacks depth in power electronics.
* Project risks: Stability, efficiency, thermal performance, EMC compliance, and PSU-controller integration may become failure points if not addressed.
* Opportunity for entry: As an external power electronics specialist, you will help mitigate risks and provide the necessary support to ensure project success.
Ideal Candidate:
* Experience in power electronics, particularly AC/DC and DC/DC power supplies and integration.
* Deep expertise in PSU stability, efficiency, thermal management, and EMC/EMI compliance.
* Proven ability to collaborate effectively with software and firmware teams to deliver integrated solutions.
* Strong background in high-performance electronics design with an emphasis on long-term lifecycle stability.
* Experience in a validation/backup supplier role is a plus.
* Ability to work under pressure and contribute solutions to high-stakes projects.
* Knowledge of controller integration and communication with custom high-speed interfaces is advantageous.
