Job Description
As an Advanced Purchasing Engineer, you will play a key role at the very start of new customer projects and product developments. You are involved from concept phase to serial production, ensuring that cost, quality, and technical requirements are aligned from day one. Acting as the link between engineering, sales, and Global Supply Management, you'll shape sourcing strategies, define target costs, and guide supplier selection for critical components and systems. Your work bridges technology, business, and innovation — enabling TREMEC to deliver world-class drivetrain solutions while maintaining cost efficiency and supplier excellence.
Your key tasks include:
* Travel to suppliers and international fairs to identify sector innovation.
* Track technological trends, market evolutions, and supplier capabilities.
* Participate in new project kick-offs and customer lead evaluations.
* Represent purchasing in technical discussions and project reviews.
* Conduct cost assessments even with incomplete or early-stage data.
* Maintain confidentiality while working with preliminary information.
* Manage cost books, from concept cost to approved design and serial production cost.
* Support prototype procurement and follow-up until SOP (Start of Production).
* Point of contact between engineering and GSM (Global Supply Management) buyers.
* Advise engineering and sales teams on:
* Approved suppliers and manufacturers within TREMEC's network.
* New manufacturing technologies or production processes.
* Value engineering and cost-reduction opportunities.
* Alternative production methods or design concepts.
About you:
You are a proactive, technically-minded professional who thrives in a cross-functional environment. You combine engineering insight with business acumen and have the curiosity to explore new manufacturing technologies. You are comfortable making decisions in early project stages and excel at balancing cost, quality, and feasibility.
* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Industrial Sciences, or a related field.
* 5+ years of experience in purchasing, product development, or cost engineering.
* Technical understanding of mechanical components, materials, and production.
* Proven ability to work with incomplete data and translate it into reliable cost indications.
* Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
* Interest in the automotive market and technology trends.
* Willingness to travel to suppliers and industry events.
* Fluent in English; proficiency in Dutch and German is a plus.
