A part-time (80%) academic in Interventions in Cross-Cultural Clinical Psychology and Child Psychotherapy

Job description

Within the Faculty of Faculty of Psychology, Speech Therapy, Sexology and Family Sciences and the Institute for the Analysis of Change in Contemporary and Historical Societies, Social Sciences and Humanities Sector, this position will include the following teaching, research and community service duties:

1. Teaching

You will teach mainly in the field of cross-cultural clinical psychology and child psychotherapy, within the various cycles of study managed by the Faculty, and in particular within the Bachelor's and Master's programs in psychological sciences, the Master's specialization in integrated psychotherapeutic clinics and continuing education in psychotherapy. You will teach in the various cycles of study run by the Faculty. You will also supervise Master's theses.

2. Research

You will develop your research activities, including leading research programs, in the field of clinical psychology and clinical intervention with children, with a particular focus on the cultural and cross-cultural dimensions. Your research will focus on the field of mental health, with an emphasis on one or more of the following areas: intercultural and multicultural clinical psychology, ethnopsychology, intercultural psychotherapy, the psychic and social effects of collective trauma, and community mental health. Expertise in the epistemology of clinical human sciences and in research methodology in this field is expected. You will supervise doctoral theses.

3. In addition …

Once tenured, you will carry out various service activities and responsibilities within the institution, such as being a member of a programme committee or examination committee, or having management responsibilities within the faculty or research institute.

You will develop collaborations with stakeholders in the field, and in particular with university and clinical teams and networks in Belgium and abroad, outside Europe if possible. Experience in intercultural clinics is expected. Within UCLouvain, you will be invited to collaborate with colleagues at the IACCHOS Institute working on the consequences of social change, in particular on children and the family context, as well as with stakeholders in the health and mental health field (e.g.: child and adolescent psychiatry services, child and family health care services, university hospitals). Finally, you will be responsible for promoting the university's international profile through research and teaching activities.

Who we’re looking for

4. Education

You have a PhD in Psychological Sciences or equivalent qualification.

5. Experience

You have a proven track record in university teaching, with evidence where possible by formal evaluations. Your scientific experience is demonstrated by publications of international standing.

You have supplemented this with an extended stay or significant experience abroad, outside the institution that awarded your doctorate.

You have university training and practical experience in clinical psychology and child and family psychotherapy in an intercultural/multicultural context.

6. Skills

You are comfortable working as part of a team of academics and integrate research results into your teaching. You are capable of conducting high-level scientific research, from obtaining funding to team management. You are creative, open to pedagogical innovation and multidisciplinary.

You can communicate in French and English. If this is not the case, you undertake to acquire a command of these two languages within two years of taking up your position. Knowledge of other languages is an asset.

7. Tenure after positive assessment of the probationary period – typically four years. This type of career entitles you to a public sector pension.
8. Appointment as lecturer or professor according to your previous academic experience, as determined by the Rectoral Council.
9. Teaching load capped at 90 hours for a full-time tenure-track position, and 150 hours once tenured.
10. An attractive and progressive salary according to seniority and the promotion process.
11. A start date of 1 September 2026 at the earliest.
