Job Description
We are currently looking for a
Senior Design Engineer – Ports & Waterways
in the framework of a
large marine infrastructure project
in Belgium.
The assignment consists in taking the design lead for all or part of a major
Ports & Waterways
project, while acting as a key technical reference for the team and ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality engineering solutions from concept design through to completion.
On a daily basis, the Senior Design Engineer will report directly to the
Team Manager .
The main duties are the following:
Take the design lead for all or part of a large marine infrastructure project.
Act as
Principal Engineer
on the project and coordinate, guide and coach junior engineers and CAD designers.
Liaise with the different design teams involved in the project and contribute to an integrated design approach across all relevant disciplines.
Ensure smooth coordination between engineering teams and support the delivery of projects from
concept design to detailed design and completion .
Maintain constructive and client-oriented communication with clients and external partners on all technical design matters.
Design and dimension marine infrastructure projects in accordance with current
Belgian and European standards, legislation, codes of practice and internal guidelines .
Prepare engineering deliverables at all stages of the project, including
preliminary design, basis design, tender design and detailed design .
Contribute to the design of marine and hydraulic structures such as
port and waterway development studies, port master plans, locks, quay walls, jetties, bridge foundations, flood protection areas, dikes and breakwaters .
Follow developments in construction methods in order to optimise the design, while remaining open to innovative and alternative technical solutions.
Be responsible for the follow-up of
progress, quality and performance
of the project activities carried out by the team.
Apply and further develop technical skills in engineering software and calculation tools such as
SCIA Engineer, D-Sheet Piling, Ansys and Plaxis .
Stay up to date with applicable standards, new techniques and developments within the discipline.
Support the Tender Manager in the preparation of
attractive, competitive and innovative technical offers .
Actively contribute to the commercial phase when required, including technical input for competitive bidding.
Requirements
Master’s degree in
Civil Engineering, ideally with a specialization in
Construction Design ,
Dredging and Offshore Engineering, or a related field.
A degree as
Civil Engineer
or
Industrial Engineer in Civil Engineering
is required. A Bachelor’s degree in
Civil Engineering Technologies
followed by a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering is also acceptable.
Strong experience in
calculation work, which may have been gained in marine infrastructure or in other fields such as
structures, bridges, tunnels or buildings .
Proven experience in
structural calculations
involving
concrete and/or steel and/or geotechnics .
Good knowledge of the
Eurocodes
is mandatory.
Experience in coordinating or coaching
junior engineers and CAD designers
is highly valued.
Experience in tendering or competitive bidding is considered a strong advantage.
Dutch is
mandatory, including the ability to
independently write calculation notes in Dutch .
Good communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with clients, partners and multidisciplinary engineering teams. xphnsxz
The candidate must be based in
Flanders
and willing to work
2 days per week
in
Ghent, Antwerp or Ostend .
Availability for
site interventions
when required.
